View Full Version : Jumping out of 1st gear

Picked up our brand new shiny 1.2 Lounge just over a week ago. My wife drives it (I can't due to a broken wrist), and she finds it jumps out of 1st whilst low speed in traffic. For the last decade we've driven big diesels. Question: do you think its our driving or should we take it to the dealer? Has anyone else had the problem?
Otherwise we love the car.

First time I hear about this problem so at least itīs not a common fault! Otherwise itīs really hard to say weather you wife engages the 1st gear right or not.
Welcome to the forum by the way!

Helloooo neighbour! lol
Only thing I could suggest would be is to try change into 1st gear slower and making sure you feel the floor before with the clutch foot whilst changing. I know this is how you're meant to change anyway, however with my previous car if I made sure the clutch was all the way down for a moment before releasing, the gear stayed in properly. Otherwise go back to the dealer and see if they can find a fault with the first gear.
Did you get your 500 from PDH garage in Hassocks by any chance? Seeing as you're from Uckfield :)

Have your previous cars been stick shifts also? If they have, there is no reason she dosent know how to use a manual car properly! Then I guess it has got to be a fault if it happens over and over again:( Then you have to see a dealer......
BTW! Welcome to this great forum! Hope you wil like it here :)

Thanks guys - we'll call the dealer, especially now the bluetooth mike doesn't seem to work.

That's cool. I've been to them a couple of times and they've been happy to help me as much as they can, seeing as they're not the dealer I got my car from :D

By way of an update the car was missing a component in the gearbox. Which hopefully has been fixed now. This car was new in January, and we've already had it off the road for 4 days.:(

:hair-raising: I can't understand how things essential like that are missing in some cars :( Glad it's been sorted though!
