View Full Version : Bad case of car fever!

Now I dont know about you guys, but I seem to have this constant new car fever. I always get bored with my cars quite fast and so the 500 has made an exception on this rule by keeping the fever away for almost two years! So judging only by that I know it´s something really special, but now I cant seem to shake this of! So, tomorrow I´m going out to see 1-series BMW:eek:. Not too sure I will end up buying one, but you never know and that is really terrifying me. Altough I kind of want a new car already, I dont want to give up my 500. Cant have them both tho!
Do any of you suffer from this, and please talk me out of it now!

But not the 500, I like it more and more as each day goes bylol And it had made me only look at other Italian cars when I do:icon_thumleft: But I know what you mean about car feverlol These days I really regret buying the Bravo, because I have seen pictures of the new Giulietta:icon_thumleft:

I have the same problem but not with my Abarth, I have trade a 911 turbo for a Ferrari 360 and now the new Challenger SRT8 the last 12 months, but I will keep my Abarth forever like my Harley and the classic Gold Wing GL1000LTD, the only bikes I have for more then 10 years now! :)
Now, if you cant keep them both, the BMW 1 is a fine car, my ex have the cabrio and I like it, she have it for one year now and now she wont to change it for the BNW 3, it is a never end circle...
IMO take your time and check the Abarth SS to, looks much better on the road then the BMW and as the best model in the line you may wont to keep it, (is like you have got the BMW 3M in a small version) ;)

You mean one of these? They are lovely cars! This one is originally from Switzerland and came to Finland as the owner moved back here. It has never been sold here officially and I´m told this one of the two cars here!
Thanks guys for trying to reason with me! I try my best to "get well" again and shake this out of my system! I know it a BMW, and I know what kind of people usually own those...

VilleV, DON'T DO IT :yelling::yelling::yelling:
There are many better cars out there than this 1 series. I've known two people who have had them, neither kept them for more than 18 months, ended up hating them in fact, so this won't cure your car fever blues.
I've had the same affliction all my driving life. It NEVER goes away :crying2:

I think Steyr Puch has made the 4x4 system in that Panda. And it is one of my fathers cars...
Went out to test drive the BMW today. I was well impressed with the overal quality and liked the ride very much. It really is true that BMWs are a pleasure to drive! Still, I think it´s quite expencive for what you´re actually getting. Almost too much so if you compare it to VW Golf for example! And in the end the offer on the 500 was so ridiculous that I decided not to go for it (12500 euros, when examples similar to mine are selling at 16900 at the moment)! So for now the fever is coming down again...
Thanks for everyones input to convince me the 500 is all the motor one needs!

I suffer from this as well. The longest I have ever kept a car is 2 years and that is approaching fast with regards to my 500! I'm not quite at the point yet where I really want to change my car but I have been thinking about what I would get if I did change. I've always wanted an Audi TT but this would mean buying a used car as I couldn't afford a brand new one. Also I keep thinking about running costs and I'm used to the cheap road tax and the petrol costs not being too bad so that's keeping the fever at bay for the moment!!

here is something for your love of old Pandas: This car allows you to do things you can't do with any other car.

I almost did buy a MiTo instead of the 500, and im glad I didnt. I decided that the runningcost's would be too expensive. And besides that, it just doesnt have the same charm as the 500 got :)
Im actually very surprised how great this little car is, even thou it haves some minor 'faults';
The seatbelts are hard to reach (due to the long door)
S&S only works when the engine/car is completely warm.
And the steeringwheel isnt completely in center (more like 99.5% center), but it does run straight as a straw.
Besides these small hickups I just love it to bits, and keep finding new excuses to drive it. So for now, I wouldnt wanna have any other car.
Do you guys think that Fiat will make a facelift to the 500 sometime in the future? (maybe with the new 0.9l engines?)

I almost sold my 500 for a MiTo!!!lol But didnt, and Im glad too!
I´ve noticed this too with the steering wheel! Only in italian cars...:D
i dont believe they are going to change the look of the car! Its just right the way it is and they could only end messing it up like the new new mini.

Now I dont know about you guys, but I seem to have this constant new car fever.....Do any of you suffer from this, and please talk me out of it now!
I do recognize the symptoms. When I got my driving license it was a must to get an own car right away. I had that car for six years, sold it and didn't buy a new one. I managed without own car for 3 years. I thought I was cured.
But then it started again. I had an opportunity to get a company leasing car, changed job and was able to change in more rapid circulation and then I recognized the fever again. Three years with same car was simply too long time. So, I needed to create a reason get the second car to our household. And that car needed to change every year. In the end, it's not very satisfactory to change car that mainly is driven by someone else. Therefore I needed to quit car benefit and start spending my own money on two cars. After that I've changed my car once, after 11 months, and now it's again 11 months from last time.
My wife's car was changed now after 3 years. This 500 is having a good chance to stay several years. Next time it will be my car but I think the current one will stay awhile still. One thing I hated in leasing cars was that it was very limited how you can persolize your car. With your own car you can change wheels when ever you like and to what ever you like and get some little extra to prolong the lifecycle.
My next planned change is next August. If that's the case the current car stays 20 months before it's time comes. I have some doubts that I will not stick to the plan but we'll see.
VilleV: Bmw 1-series have been on my list three times (hatchback & coupé). Last time competing with Fiat 500. Funny tho I haven't driven the car ever.

I´m afraid that someday I might chance the 500 for something without thinking it thru! Come along a nice 1-series BMW, Mito or even a DS3 with a nice price tag it might well happen! And then after a while I´m sure I would regret it. There´s just something about the 500 that makes me come back to it after a while everytime I start wanting something else. So I´m most likely to swap my 500 for another 500, preferably an Abarth!
Because of our work situation me and my missus are living in defferent cities at the moment, but once this is over and we get to live together it´s going to be time to get another car and it´s more than likely that its going to be the 1-series. I´d like it to be the coupe but my more sensiple half might "settle" for a hatch...lol
I´ve driven the 1-series and it did surprise me! It was actually a really nice car to drive and didnt feel like the budget Bimmer in any way! Really sharp and accurate steering and reasonably quiet for it´s size!

Now I've finally driven the baby bimmer. As the model has been on the market since 2004 there is a variety of different 1-series models to comment. 116i with plain black interior versus 135i with M sport and full leather sport seats are two so different packages that you should compare.
My test ride was with straight six, well equiped, light interior and I must say I was impressed. It handles well althought it doesn't always go exactly straight (this one had soft friction tires on). Small class car with RWD can be tricky or pure fun - depends how you see it - I like it. I have to say that I haven't been a fan of BMW interiors, but there is a big difference with entry level black fabric and high end light leather interior. I still don't like the dashboard, the style is pretty much the same as 20 years ago.
On the engine side, a straight six is always something that you would like to see on BMW's.

My advice: Try to save some money. You don't need this 126. If you regard it to be cute and nice, buy yourself a 1:43 car.

I want an series one from the early to the mid 70`s, and I prefer a italian made one. Not an polish one except if I find an very early one. The series one is the one with chrome bumpers and BIG steering wheellol The personal is a later model with plastic bumpers and plastic along the sides of the car. They all have the engine in the rear:D The 126 is really just an old 500 with a different body:icon_thumleft:

Ville! Don't do it!
You may be longing for something new right now, but I bet you will regret being without your 500.
When I was in high school, the first car I bought with my own money was a1978 Camaro Z-28. (think, "Smokey & the Bandit" movie) only a Camaro instead of a Firebird.:icon_thumleft:
I had that Camaro for about 5-6 years. I sold it after it had become my second car. Living in an apartment complex at the time with limited parking situation, and the fact that it was having more and more little problems with nowhere to work on it (no garage) I had to sell it.
For the first time in my life, have had my car (see below) for 5 years already, and I have absolutely NO desire to sell or get rid of it... at all...
250hp and 265tq in a 2800 pound car will do thatlol
I am anxiously awaiting the A500, so I can retire my SRT-4 from daily driving duty, and it will become my "toy".:icon_thumright:

Rosso is really beautiful when its clean under the sun lights. It wasn't my favourite color when I bought my 500, but with the time, my mind changed.
But I still like the blues like azzurro or cha cha cha or jive.

As some of you may know already i´m one of those people who suffer from never ending car fever, the only thing stopping me from constantly changing cars is the fact I really really like my 500. So now I´ve found a way around this problem; we finally moved in together with my girlfriend and decided that we needed another car, so this way I didnt have to sell the 500 and I was able to get a new car too!
So here she is, a 2011 Nissan Juke Dig-T 190hp in dark brown. I have to say it does feel quite fast after driving around in a 70hp Fiat 500 for three years:

Thanks Thomas! The Juke is certainly different from most other cars! Compared to the 500 it feels very grown up, it much more queit and refined and the 190hp 1.6 turbo engine is really great. My girlfriend is from Northern Finland, so we needed a car that´s more at home on longer runs on highways when we go visit her family.
