Hi guys, I have a 500 1.2 dual logic for one year...and in the last 2 months i go every week with it in service because it has a noise when i start the engine, and the guys from there can't find out why. They have changed the electromotor, then the gearbox computer, then the battery and nothing...the issue still appear after one day. Do you happen to know anythings about this kind of problems? any of you have a dual logic? Maybe you can help me, asking in a service from your country or friends, i don't know anybody who can have an idea about what is happening....thank you very much! i count on you!

Can you descripe what kind of noise it is? And where itīs coming from? Cold weather is known to be the cause for some of the weird noises in 500s!

Is the sound from the gearbox or the engine? Is it when idling or does it go away at once you have started? Sound strange! Have you tried the ECU update?

The sound is just when i start the engine after that the sound dissapears.Yes they have done an ECU update too. ECU update is the update for gearbox isn't it? And nothing....

ECU update is the update for the engines software:icon_thumleft: If it goes away straight away, it is probably nothing to worry about:) You relase the key once it has started, so the starter motor stops turning once the cars engine is started? You have enough power on your battery? Does it happend at everytime you start the engine, hot or cold outside?

so...the baterry they have just changed it and still same problem. It happens everytime i start the engine but most when it's cold outside, when it's hot, only sometimes.the starter motor stops after the engine is started.

Back with same old problem....this year my sweet 500 was 1 month and a half in service and 2 weeks i have used it. It's tragic, i can't even think this problem will be solved. I come again with my question...does anybody heard something about this kind of simpthoms at fiat 500 automatic? i desperately want to solve this issue but they don't know where is the problem. Can anybody ask such a question in one service in your country?
i would really appreciate if you can ask it for me in at least one service in your country, city .... or wherever you can.
Thank you very much, and i loo forward your answer as soon as possible.
Please don't let my 500 alone to struggle with this!

See ya and thanks again!

I've tried to resume your problem and gave it to our german forum. I don't have much hope, for most 500s here don't have Dual Logic. Anyway, it might be someone has got an idea.
I'll try to get my Dutch together and ask in the dutch/belgian forum, for there are a lot more users with Dual Logic.
Best
Peter

I'm not quite sure if it's helpful. I heard of some drivers who had weird noises when they started their motors. The garage found out that there are at least two kinds of electromotors. One of them is a Hitachi, and it is a little bit to weak to do its job properly. It jumps on the cogs of the flywheel. The Fiat garage changed some starter motors on warranty.
It could be worse if the flywheel had damaged cogs. So this could be the reason for the sound. Anyway, this also should be a cause of warrenty.

Thank you very much Peter. I'll try to tell them this thing, maybe it will help. It's this all you got? i can't believe i'm the only one having this problem... :( if you can find more, please let me know!

Wish you the best,
Ana

Hi Ana,
the most complete information is from a german driver from the Stuttgart region. He wrote that Fiat knew about the problems about the weak Hitachi starter motor that ruins the cogs on the flywheel.
I did not find much about the problem in the forum, but there might be others sharing it, unless Fiat would not know it.

Hello i also have the exact fiat model, the 500 1.2 lounge dualogic, and the exact same problem has happend to me too. The mechanichs at fiat are just changeing the car battery and it seems like the problem is fixed but within a month the problem strats again, i get the strange noise when i start the engine. I have changed the battery 4 times till now!!!! Are you sure that it is the starter motor?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi!
So the problem is more complicated that seem to be. I'm sorry to tell you that, but for 3 years the try to solve me this problem and no result. You can change the battery even 10 times, it will not work :(
In conclusion till now, i don't know what my car has. I started to get used to the sound, if it helps you :))
I think this is a model problem and beeing among the first cars produced (i bought mine in 2008) they are like a test...they are waiting feedback from user and then starting to find a solution, but this takes a lot of time.
Good luck and welcome !
