Noise from the speedometer at 80kph 50mph or so... is like a small propeller in the speedo start a fast flip, flip, flip ..... when you go more then 50mph / 80 kph or so and it stops when you slow down....
No loose plastics or something, I check everything , it comes from inside the speedo, and it did it for the first time the day before yesterday!
Any ideas please

A bad wire or connection maybe? Have the dealership to check it:)

I suppose a Fiat dealer will help you as well - it's just the speedo, similar to those in the Fiat 500.

And the Fiat dealers ain`t allowed to even touch a Abarth......:( It is supposed to be a part of the exclusive Abarth experiencelol But I guess atleast you have a Abarth dealer in Athen, even if it is on the other side of town:icon_thumleft:

Itīs a Fiat, so it will propably stop by itself after a while... Little wd-40 will cure anything.

Weird. I've noticed a noise like this too but I'm fairly certain it's coming from one of the heater vents in the dash. The only way I can describe it is that it sounds like a leaf has got stuck in it somewhere and a fan inside the dash hits it as it it spins. It's quite annoying and I've only noticed it since I've been using the heater quite a lot recently :(

Looks like we have the same problem, the good thing with this car is that the same problems are on more the one car, so at the end we find the way to fix them, the bad thing is that in Fiat , even if they know the problem and in most cases they did, they never fix it in the production line and let the garages or the owners to do the job.....

That's because we'll do it properly! I won't take mine to the garage as I fear it will be returned with more rattles/noises than it went in with! But, I'm not prepared to take the dash apart myself so I'll just turn the stereo up until we get warmer weather and I don't need to use the heater so often :)

I have a noise that is more like a loud buzz and it happens just below 3000RPM in any gear but especially in 1st when accelerating. I thought it was some loose sheet metal like a heat shield. I have also read that it may be some hoses to the heater/air conditioning.
How do we trace this?

On mine it stops by itself after a few months time!

I have my 500 now for 7 weeks and 1,300 miles. The noise started after the second week and got worse, now a few days ago it started being intermittent. Is the speedometer cable driven? I have a feeling that with all the modern electronics the speedometer would be electrical so there would not be any cable noise.

When was your 500 manufactured? Some of the early U.S. 500's experienced this problem and I think it was determined to be A/C lines behind the dash that weren't properly isolated. Since it's so new I'd just take it into the dealer. They should have some information on that problem by now.

Also, while this is a quite friendly group, it is mostly (over 95%) European, Northern European or Southern European 500 owners. Their cars are almost entirely different from ours.

If you are experiencing problems you might want to try fiat500usaforum.com or fiat500owners.com both of which are over 95% U.S..

I stop in here to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and see what problems pop up on the European 500's.:icon_thumright:

This is very true and propably the reason why nobody here has offered a real solution to the problem.

Since the 500 has been on the market in Europe from 2007 almost every know issue with the Euro car is well documented by now (there are some issues but not that many, luckily...). Splitting breather pipe and rough idle on the 1.2, sticky rear brakes on the 1.4 to mention a couple, but nothing major.

Thanks Seadawg and VilleV,

I checked with the USA groups and one of the suggestions was that the engine cover was loose. This cover has 4 pins and just plugs into the top of the engine. It is somewhat heavy for soundproofing I think.
I removed and reinstalled mine and it cured the noise for about 3 days but now it is coming back. I think the cover works itself loose, have not found a solution yet but it sure is nice without the buzz.

Would removing the cover all together cure the problem? I dont think it has any real function so removing it wouldnīt affect anything!
