There was a post a few weeks back from Albert who said he found the retro horn on the 500 a bit weedy. Freda's owner agrees, so I said I'd fit some Bosch air horns I had lying around. Sadly, the compressor has died :( so looked online and found something called a Stebel Nautilus Compact. Mostly fitted to motor cycles, but is popular with some car owners:

Does anyone know how many amps the standard Fiat 500 horn draws? If it's 18 or more, I can get away without fitting the relay switch, sort of 'plug and play'. If it's a lot less though, there could be a nasty fire........:crying4:

You can get more information including soundfiles and prices here (http://www.valkmotorparts.com/products.php). Sadly I didn't find any informations about the amps. I think the amps should be no problem, for the horns a primarely for bikes. You should send a mail to the people from Valk Motor Parts. They are known to be cooperative.

i have a pair of mercedes ML horns on my 500 i fitted them when my car was stripped down after my accident last year have had no problems just wired them in they bolted in place using the merc horn bracket , the fiat horn is a bit hard to get to it was easy for me to do as i had the front bumper and rads out of the way . the horns sound good and loud but not over the top

Thanks for the feedback folks. I think I'll try the direct plug in approach, after all, if there's too much load on the circuit the fuse should blow first.

I hope :icon_thumleft:
