FIAT Press Release

It's official: Fiat's ecoDrive is no turkey. Figures just released by Fiat show that the thousands of European motorists who have been using the fuel-saving advice device since its launch in October, have already saved more than 163,000kg of carbon dioxide.
And that seasonal success is equivalent to cooking 294,228 Christmas dinners!
Launched by Fiat at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, ecoDrive is a free-of-charge tool that helps drivers understand the impact of their driving style on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Using a USB memory stick plugged into the car's dashboard, ecoDrive records detailed information about the vehicle and how it is driven, which is then uploaded on to a computer. It provides an analysis of the driver's performance, along with suggestions on how to improve efficiency further by improving driving methods.
"Fiat ecoDrive offers real benefits and its already helping drivers in Europe to improve their driving efficiency, enabling them to save fuel and reduce their impact on the environment," says Lawrie Malatios, General Manager for Fiat in New Zealand. "In 2009, when it starts arriving on cars in New Zealand, Fiat drivers here will also be able to enhance their contribution to helping the environment - something they are already doing by driving cars from a low emission range that includes the lowest fuel consumption car in Australia, the Fiat 500 JTD."
Drivers using ecoDrive can become part of eco:Ville, an environmentally-friendly on-line community. Members have used it to offer ideas and feedback over the last three months, which Fiat has responded to - already the company has released four enhanced versions of the system.
Fiat ecoDrive is an upgrade to the highly popular Blue&Me telematics system already fitted in New Zealand to selected Fiat 500 and Bravo models and there are plans to further widen the scope of the technology across the entire car range and even into commercial vehicles.

Oh Lefteris..... I have tried for weeks to increase my Eco Rating.... it seems impossible:(

I have an EcoIndex of 69 (highest 73)
Acceleration = 2.5*
Deceleration = 3*
Gear Changes= 3.5*
Speed = 3*

I made gear changes in accordance with the revs. 1st-2nd=1800 revs, 3rd-4th 1500 revs, 4th-5th 1800 revs. This meant I was in 5th gear by 30mph. Yeah, I got use to it, car seemed to be OK. Really slow accelerating but then 5th gear and 'away you go'. Cars behind me weren't too impressed:(:(

EcoDrive told me I was too heavy on braking:(, so I have eased off.... this has caused my pads to need deglazing and there is now an outstanding issue with the brakes, they
sound like the pads are worn down to the metal.

Now.......... I have been told by a Fiat mechanic that by driving 'the Eco Way', this will cause future emission problems:eek:

I will be interested to hear how others are faring !

I downloaded ecodrive when it came out...

The first time I drove with it on I went very hard, redlined it in the first 3 gears every time, basically drove like a total nutter:D

I thought things would have to improve after that.... NOT!

It got worse when I drove like a Nanna :eek:

I played with it for a week but lost interest. I did get it to improve one day but it was no fun driving so I have never used it again.

And whatīs the point driving if it isnt fun? In my opinion my 500 is consuming little enough as it is so I donīt have to cut back the fun factor!

I just dont see why you would have eco drive on a car that is ment to be fun?? It may make sense in one of those ecoboxes, but I really dont think it has on a car like the 500

I just had a thought!!:eek:

They should have "revoDrive" the more you rev the engine and hit the redline the more points you get :clappinghands: The graph could go down instead of up and you could get "Fun points"

"revoDrive would have to come standard on all Abaths! lol

I'm a genius! lol Does anyone know a software developer??? ;)

I should suggest it to Fiat :icon_thumleft: It would be a huge hit! and imagine the media coverage and Ad campaigns :D
