I have an old Nokia 6310i phone with Bluetooth that works with the Blue&Me message reading. I would like to get a more modern phone but, having looked at the list of compatible phones the Dealer gave me, it's difficult to choose one.

Most of them have a dash [-] in the column that indicates whether or not it works but some have an 'N' [for no perhaps?] and others have a blob [.] to indicate that they will work. I guess the dash means 'possibly'.

The rest of the listed phones have this dash - including my phone - but it does work!

So, can you tell me what model phone you have if you use it for message reading?

I'd quite like one with a camera / video in it so will be looking at a tidy sum and don't want to buy one that doesn't work with Bluetooth message reading.

Thanks!

Hmmm... exactly.

Mine didn't work at first, then suddenly it did - then it stopped working for ages [after a visit to the Dealers]. They said it wasn't compatible but it obviously was.

Also the Ecodrive stopped working for ages and then one day I put the stick in and it suddenly started saying ,'Updating' and 'Update completed' but it wouldn't revert to the tuner as it used to. I had to press the Windows button and say 'Cancel' to get the radio back on.

It also would 'update' even if I hadn't used the car in between inserting the stick. The Dealers have no idea why it stops working, but every time I complain they put their USB stick in and it does its stuff.

I did a 'chat' to a Fiat expert but the woman I chatted to on line had no idea what I was talking about and quickly terminated the messaging.

So ... how do you know what it sounds like if your Iphone doesn't support message reading?

I haven't done much research on B&M, but, are you two saying that your car can read text messages back to you in the car while you drive??

That's very nifty!!

Yes, it's true! Even if your phone is in the boot. You might hear the 'beep-beep' that you normally hear when a text message comes in and then the 'voice' will mute the radio and say, 'You have received a new SMS message. Do you want me to read it now?' I then have to say 'Yes' or 'No' and if I say yes then she will read it ... 'If I'm not in when you arrive, I'll leave the key under the plant pot.'

It's great because it's such a temptation to read a text message and there's not always somewhere to pull over to do so safely. Of course, if I want to reply I do have to find somewhere to stop because the Blue&Me can't manage that!

I went to the Carphone Warehouse yesterday and asked the man if he would put my SIM card into a new phone and then send me a text to see if that particular model would work. He gave me a very strange look. I'm not sure he believed me.

However, it didn't work so I now have to go back lots more times to irritate him until I find one that will work but doesn't cost £300.00!

That is so very cool!!!

It's things like this... options that are cutting edge like this that will set this car apart from the "other" cars in this segment in the US...

I currently have a Sony Ericson 905c, so hopefully that will be compatible.

Thanks for the info Gadget;)

I haven't really started looking at these links [hoping someone would tell me a phone that works] but you might find out if your phone works by checking one or both of them.

Hhhmmm... doesn't appear as though my phone is compatible.

However, I won't give up hope. My guess is that when it hits the States, it will have a whole new suite of programs and will probably be more tailored to the devices that are available here.

We will have to wait and see;)

If all else fails, I do still have my iPhone 3G. I "downgraded" some time ago, because I was tired of paying the $30 USD a month per line (my wife had one too) for unlimited data transfer. That's $60 USD a month just for data!!!

We are about to buy our first house, so we needed to cut down the spending:icon_thumleft:
