Hello all,

Am I crazy? I just ordered my personalized plates for my 500... over a year early.

My rational was, It's only $30 a year to keep the plates when they aren't on a vehicle, and if I don't snag one now, all of the cool ideas will be taken when this wonderful little car hits the North American streets:icon_thumright:

My idea was inspired by our very own VilleV ... I hope you don't mind:D

Here it is... "MY CINQ"

What do you guys think?

That´s cool!:icon_thumleft: Apparently you guys dont have that many limitations on a license plate? No numbers required or anything?

30$ doesnt sound bad at all if you compare it to the 1000 euros what we have to pay to get one...

Nope, no numbers required for the custom plates.

Here in California, you have only seven digits to work with.

I actually have chosen to use a "Special Interests" plate as well, where a portion of the monies from your increased registration goes to a certain cause, or fund. They can range from helping fireman funds, Tahoe Lake, Education/Kids, or The Arts!

I chose the Education/Kids plate... it allows me to use a symbol. In this case, I am putting a "hand" symbol in the middle of the two words. It looks like a little kids hand holding up the number "5" ... which I thought was appropriate :icon_thumleft:

I'll post pics when I get them.

I was thinking of getting a Yosemite plate, one possible option "XTRASML" or "500ABRT" I wonder what the inmates will think when they are making the plates. lol

lol

I'm sure they'll be thinking.... "How cute!"

Those are some pretty good ideas BTW.

I was trying all sorts of combination of different letters that could work for Abarth, five hundred, 500, 5 oh oh, I tried em' all... but they were all already taken.

Thats why, when I saw Villev's "My Cinq" album, I fell in love and went straight to the DMV web site, and sure enough, it was available!:relaxing:

^^ Indeed...

It's got that "it" that a personalized plate should have.

... and if folks here (in the US) don't "get it", it's their loss... maybe they should brush up on their italianlol

... and for all the non-California folks, for an idea of the symbol that will be in the middle of the "MY" and "CINQ", think of the hand of the waving smiley below, only, of course, not waving, and in the same colour as the letters:icon_thumleft:

That's exactly it!!!!! Thanks VilleV!!!!

I can't wait to get it... even if I just get to admire it without it being on the car.

I'm just super happy that I was able to snag it before the majority of folks start grabbing all the good Fiat 500 custom plate idea.

Hint to the other state side folks if you want to order one for your car. I'm sure they'll go fast in your area.

It's a special car, that deserves a special plate. Especially since it's so affordable compared to Europe.

Will the DMV let you transfer/register it to a different car in the future?

Well, there is even a little side note somewhere on the site while you are going through the process, that says, the fee to order the plates is $50, then it's $40 (i think) a year thereafter tacked on to your registration dues... then if it's not going on a registered vehicle (which is my case), I pay $30 a year to "hold" the plates in my possession, and when I get my 500, I'll just go to the DMV and get my registration stickers.

We'll see how that goes when the time comes though.

Okay, I was just looked it up on the DMV. Complete a Special Interest License Plate Application indicating that you want to reassign the plates to another vehicle, hold the plates for future use, or release interest in the plates. If you are retaining the plates for future use, most plate programs require an annual retention fee. The retention fees vary by type of plate and are listed on the second page of the application. Failure to pay this annual fee will result in cancellation of the plate and possible reassignment of the configuration

I may just do that. Good thinking :icon_thumleft: Or I may just drive around with my paper plates. (Free toll roads & free red light cameras) lol

I like it! You should snag it if it's available!!

You'll notice, my wife's Tahoe is playing the role of "holder" for the plate. In order to get the plate out of the DMV, it had to go on a vehicle.

Since my car already has the "PENTA 1" plates, this was our only option.

Here they will stay until I get my Abarth...

Agreed! It's also, as I'm sure you're aware, the root word for any five sided shape... like say, a Penta Star:icon_thumright:

Good thinking to order the special plate in advance :icon_thumright:
If I would live in California ( and had a 500 ), my choice could be the
plate : LOW 500, cause I do like lowered versions lol

That sounds like an awesome idea Niko!

Although, I would bet that this idea is already taken. When I was ordering my plates "MY CINQ" I tried a bunch of other ideas first, and the were all taken!

I guess there are probably a bunch of folks who ready have had custom plates for their classic Fiats?

I just really amped that I was able to snag my plates:icon_thumright:

But that would be possible even in Finland. You could reserve the plate already now. :icon_thumleft:

Of course the price is ridicilous and you need pay it again when you actually get your 500 (that's your plan?) and will move it from one car to another. :(

Still a plan with the 500. Yes, 1000e´s is ridicilous amount of money and
also, that you have to pay it again when moving the plate forward.

Otherwise, LOW - 500 would suite here perfecktly :icon_thumright:
