Hi
I wonder if anyone on here has converted their 500 1.4, sport into an Abarth or even an essesse?
I bought mine before the Abarth was available and am thinking of either a conversion, if poss or buying a nearly new abarth if not possible?
Are there any tuners in the UK specialising in this sort of conversion?

Hi Gareth! Are you thinking of using genuine Abarth parts or aftermarket tuning parts? I know about this website thatīs selling Abarth look-a-like body kit: http://www.magnatuning.ro/en/product/8306/Fiat-500-Abarth-Look-Body-Kit
No price announced or anything tho..

Hi,
For the look it should be feasible but for the rest it's a different story.
The Abarth is quite different as the engine is not a 1.4 Sport with a turbo but a complete different setup.
Brakes and suspension also are different and a modification of a 1.4 Sport would probably cost more than a new Abarth.
It would never be an original and also it would cause for sure some trouble to get it road legal I believe.
A used Abarth engine with ECU and wiring was on Ebay.de for about 5000 Euro if I remember well but to get that running is a different story.
Also a gearbox and plenty of other parts such as charge coolers are needed for that project so you better check for a complete car.

Sounds like it would be cheaper and a lot less stressful to sell/trade in a normal 500 and just buy an Abarth 500.

The only way I can think that would be faesable would be to try to find a written off Abart from an auto breaker , and swap the engines over the front part of the body work and replace all the springs with abarth ones . Then you would have to fit the boost gague in the interior , replace the gear box and brakes . The Abarth despite having the same body and chassis is a very different machine to the bog standard 500 , it would be basically a complete rebuild of your car

.......and again, cheaper and less problems and headaches to trade your Sport for an Abarth. :)
a swap of that magnitude can end up being a nightmare!
