Wreckmaster and Guttemamma goes to Italy II

Tought I'd start a new thread for our second trip with the 500 to Italy :) In this thread I will post pictures from the meeting in Portofino / Chiavari when we Get back to Norway! But I will also try to use it as a travelog so you guys can keep up to date on what we Are doing( well maybe not everything lol ) It is now only aprox 30 hours until we head south through Europe again! The 500 is recently serviced and is newly waxed and is as ready as it can be :)

Writing in English I just forgot that it is nonsense to say Cologne to anyone who is no Englishman.

Cologne is Köln.

To go fast from north to south, I think you'll take the A7 from Hamburg - Hannover - Kassel - Frankfurt or Würzburg - ?

... and a lot of luck! All the world thinks that here in Germany we can go real fast on the Autobahn. Sorry to say a lot of them are in a bad state, and the Autobahn is full of these signs:

Thank you guys! It is getting closer by the minute for our departure from Norway:) I belive we will take the A7 most of the way through Germany. This year we will try to drive more through Austria than Switzerland. We will drive through Munchen to Innsbruck and through St Gotthard pass into Italy by Trent. I belive we will reach the Danish / German border around 15.00 -16.00tomorrow afternoon:) The ferry reaches Hirtshals in Denmark at 11.45. Through Germany we expect to use around 9-10 hours so we will probably be in Austria just after midnight tomorrow. If we get very tired we will try to find some remote place in the Alps to get a couple of hours zzzzz..... Italian riviera will hopefully be reached not to far from noon on Thursday. Thanks for the tip about avoiding Køln Peter:)

Me too! All this morning I see Wrecky and Guttemamma and the packed little blue on the ferry, accompanied by seagulls, in my thoughts. That gives me a real good feeling.

Here is a update guys:) the 500 is working perfectly and the drive through Denmark was a breeze, cruising in 130-140km/h :) But at the moment we Are stuck in the worst trafficjam ever on the a7 outside of Hamburg, Germany! The GPS says we will arrive in Chiavari tomorrow morning around 07.30! So with a few eatingbrakes etc... I Think it is realistic to belive we will arrive sometime just before noon:)

Well we have now reached Heidiland in Switzerland and to be honest we where so tired that we had to sleep in the car in the parkinglot for 3 hours lol . We Are now about to start the climbing up through the Swiss Alps and the GPS says aprox 4 hours before we Get there :) We lost probably more than an hour In the jam last night! And I certainly hope the the temperatur roses soon as ot is only 11C outside at the moment :( Well NeXT stop : Forza Italia!

We are there finally :) We arrived in Chiavari around 1300 to sunshine and 27c :) We were a bit tired when we arrived and went to sleep, just to wake up to a really bad thinderstorm :( It rains so hard that we can hardly hear each other speak ( top floor and metal roof lol ). So our plans for going out in shorts and tshirts is kinda kroken as it cant be much more than 18-20c right now. The 500 is well deserving a rest in the hotel parkinglot after the long trip it has faithfully brought us true :) That little car is a true gem! After driving it for more than 24 hours I am still not tired of driving it! Now we are gonna run out in the rainy weather to gonna try to find a pizzeria or something :) BTW Chiavari looks like to be a really nice town :)

Yes i am gonna meet the first people at 2000 tonight, but the meeting dont start before 1500 tomorrow :)

The meeting is now over :( It was two very nice days with lite of friendly people, nice food and beautiful 500's! We met 1500 on saturday at the hotel and looked at each others cars for a while before going on a picnic at a field where we ate cheese, cakes and wine. We also got our gadgets here! A small wallet looking thing to put the cars registration in and a licence plate holder with cinquecentisti on! After the picnic we drove back to the hotel too change cloates before driving to an very modern resturant for appertif, which included a drink, pizza, ham, cheese, onion rings etc... When we where done with the appertifs we drove to a town called Lavagna and a superfancy resturant where we ate dinner! 4 dishes!!!! And offcourse more wine! I Think the italians tought I where a bit strange when I did not want wine because I was driving :) When the dinner was over they turned the resturant into an disco, but we where tired then, so we drove back to the hotel! Day two: started with a lunch at a resturant which me and Guttemamma skipped! So we met up with the rest of the gang at a small ferry/touristboat to go for a cruise to the beautiful monestary of San Fruttoso and to Portofino, the playground of the jet setters :) I bought a genuine Kappa Abarth tshirt there :) Expensive!!!!! I could not Even Think about having enough money to visit the other shops there! Gucci, Louis Vitton, Prada, Armani etc Not my style :) When the boat came back to Chiavari we samles to the hotel where the gang split up and the meeting was over! Pictures will come when I Get back to Norway! I did see an Abarth 500C among others :) All in all we where about 40 cars :) that was the meeting! Today I and Guttemamma have had two nice dives in the Portofino marine park! Lots of fish to see :) Much richer waters than Norway or Greece I must admit when it comes to marine life! Not the best visibility tough! Now we Are gonna go out in Chiavari to eat dinner! Will probably be an early night tonight since we Are a bit tired after a day at sea! Tomorrow we Are planning to drive down to Pisa to have a look at that famous tower they have there! You know the tilting one :)

And this year we even met a few which spoke a little english :) Thats a big improvement from last year :) Now I cant wait for a 500fans meeting somewhere in Europe! BTW I did some advertising for 500fans.com while I was at the meeting :) Hopefully we will get a couple of new Italian members out of it :)

We had one night in France on the way home and stopped at this hotel, called Hotel Moderne! Which was probably a proper name in 1973lol

Hi Wrecky!
Thank you for your brillantly illustrated report. I have often been with you in mind, so it was a very little extra vacation for me.
As I see and read, your trip must have been a very good one, and I like to hear that the little 500 has worked fine again. It always looks good amongst the expensive cars in Monte Carlo.
Anyway, it is also good to be back in Norway. Almost everyone I know likes Norway. In two weeks time we'll come a little closer to you to northern Denmark. I'm looking forward to it very much!

Thanks Peter:icon_thumleft: It was an really awsome trip, we enjoyed every second and km of it:) I belive every couple with children need a week per year just to be lovers!!! Not necesarry a roadtrip like this, but some days without having to think and worry about the children. It is an vitamin injection for all I belive! And me and Guttemamma is really priveleged to have this oppertunity every year, thanks to my parents who voulenteers to take care of our kids:icon_thumleft: Without them this trip could not have been done:icon_thumleft:

Yes it is nice to be back to Norway again also, but cold..... 6-7C today. It has been snowing just a couple of hours away from here:(

I forgot to mention that we also drove down to Pisa one day and looked at that famous leaning tower they`ve got therelol It is a really creepy experience to climb it:eek: You have to lean towards the wall because everything is leaning and it really feels like it is gonna fall overlol

Maybe we should try to have a 500fans meeting next year? I am thinking factory visit in Tychi, Poland if this is possible! Tychi is south Poland not too far from Krakow and should be possible to reach from most of continental Europe! A nice drive from Germany, Finland, Sweden, Italy, the UK and from Norway. Poland is also rather cheap and there is also other things to see in the area( old town Krakow, glass art, Auswitsch etc..) What do you guys think? Could this be of interrest?
