Isn't it usually the taxes that make the car expensive. At least that's the case in Norway..
And those taxes have to be paid befor you can put licenese plates on the car.. So no profit i'm afraid..
For me the taxes will be higher than the price of the car...

Yes, this is ofcourse true. The profit available is quite small when importing a car but itīs still there. With an Abarth you could buy one for 16000 euros from Germany and pay around 5000 euros in taxes. Thatīs 21000 euros and if you add expences from importing a car which are around 1000 euros you come to 22000 euros all together. Cheapest Abarth here costs 23800 euros at the moment, so compared to that the profit would be around 1800 euros.

You Finns are lucky.. The taxes in Norway for a fully specced esseesse will be about the same as the price of a new standard car in Germany..
Checked today.. The tax here will be 19375 euro!! For an esseesse costing 25000... That's after deducting 4750 euro in sales tax in Germany (19%)

I payed 5400 NOK for my 1987 Panda, and to get licence plates on it I will have to pay another 9000 NOK that on top of the VAT I had to pay for the purchase amount when crossed the border with it!!! In total 10000NOK in taxes for a car I payed 5400 for!!!!!!!! In euros that is
Purchase: 662Eur
VAT: 123Eur
Taxes: 1103Eur
---------------------
Total: 1898Eur
---------------------
On top of this again comes MOT and the actual price for making licence plates:(
I am so tired of taxes in this country!!!!!!!!!:mad:

Just looked at the latest Finnish customs tax verdicts for imported used cars. Thereīs a decision made in october for a 2009 Abarth and the amount of tax is 5091 euros! I think the amount of tax is starting to be quite reasonable and it would be possible to get an Abarth imported from Germany at 20000 - 21000 euros plus expences.

It will be interesting to see if these used imported Abarths in the market are creating a pull for the official importer to take Abarth on official sale. Supply creates demand and there seems to be demand for Abarth. There would probably be even more demand if it would be possible buy Abarth as new and there would be an official service point in Finland.

Indeed! And if was priced competitively Iīm sure there would be a market for such car. I think correct price for the abarth would be around 23000 euros if you take into count what the n/a 1.4 and also the Mito 135hp Multiair cost. Anymore and it would be too expencive and I bet it will never happen that it would be any cheaper either!

Agree. New VAGs on same category (Ibiza, Fabia, Polo) offer more on engine and transmission so the price should be clearly below those. The ugly duck Fabia RS starts from 25000.

The 695 apparently isn't coming to North America. Instead fiat is considering its trim items as options on the abarths (carbon fiber pieces etc). They could even use a Mopar catback rather than the original setup.

I don't think that a SRT2 (twin air) 500 or a SRT ABARTH will have the Italian-European flavor that Americans won't from a FIAT or ABARTH ;)

my feeling is that you are correct. I for one want a 500 for it's ITALIAN flair. making the 500 Abarth model into something along the lines of MOPAR's SRT line just won't fly for me. I think I'll be happy with just a Sport 5sp. don't need a turbo, even though it WOULD be fun!!!! biggrin2

The NA abarth is not basically influenced by chrysler at all with a few exceptions. Some performance upgrades, graphics, and exterior trim optionns are mopar supplied and all-season tires are standard. the MA 1.4 turbo engine is rated at 150-170 hp for our market and we await the 7-speed DCT gearbox developed last year. The abarth catback exhaust may br replaced with a mopar unit for a ferrari-like tone, or the 695's Monza Record could be an option. The 6-speed manual gearbox should be in the minority biggrin2:cool:

It would be nice if the U.S. version Abarth is faster than the turbo Mini, and cheaper too.
