Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd introduce myself. Picked up my 500 Lounge on Friday 3rd, but had to take it back on Saturday (Long story not for this thread!). Never owned a Fiat before, so we'll see how things go. . .

Regards for now

Thanks. As I said, it's back with the selling dealer, only managed 34 miles before it went bang!!

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear this about your new car, but then again it´s the first 1000 miles when it´s most likely to brake if there´s faulty part somewhere! Hope they get it sorted for you asap!

And greetings from Finland!

At least: Was it a technical problem or did you hit something?

Err, just a bit - is a knackered gearbox technical enough?

Heard a bang and then a rumble from the front N/S on over-run . .

So far, I understand that the gearbox is out and it's a failure of either the Diff bearing or a mainshaft bearing - either way, as they say in Italian. . . Non è molto buono!

Oh my, not a very good start but: :welcomeon500: from Scotland!

At least the forum is great, even if your car is having a wee tantrum! :icon_thumright:

Yep, true that! I'm hoping that the good burghers from Fiat are reading these forums and taking note

Greyskull,

:welcomeon500:

Its great to have you!

Very sorry to hear of your "bumpy start" ... :(
Did you order the car special for yourself, or was it "on the lot"?

I know it is very diffrent in Europe, but in The States, the dealer would have most definitely replaced the car right then and there!

Of course, our dealer lots usually have many many cars on them to replace with...

Here's to your situation being worked out very soon.

And again, welcome:icon_thumright:

Cheers,
-Mike

Hiya. T'was a brand new one but a cancelled order for someone else, the only thing I’ve added is a side rubbing strip to break up the lines of the car a wee bit. Other than that it’s a standard UK spec 1.2 lounge.

Shall I post a pic of the car? . . Oops sorry can’t do that, it’s in the workshop having a new gearbox fitted!!

Am I right in thinking that in the States you have something called a “Lemon Law” or similar?

Wrong!! Turns out that it's a tooth off reverse gear thats gone flying around the gear train and damaged the main shaft. Still the good news is that Fiat have agreed to replace the box with a new one and not rebuild the old one. Fingers crossed I'll have it back on Wednesday! :icon_thumright:

Well, I still think that the person who cancelled the order is at a loss, and it is your gain:icon_thumright: It's great that Fiat is replacing the trans with a brand new one and at no cost to you (as it should be)

Here's to a speedy recovery. Please do post a pic of your beauty when she gets out of the "hospital"lol

Also, yes, there is a lemon law here for any vehicle purchased new. From what I gather, if your new car has the same exact issue three times, and it is well documented that you brought it to the dealer all three times for the repairs, the manufacturer must either buy back the car at full price, or replace it.

I had a brand new X1/9 that had a bearing go out in the transmission. The dealer fixed it, and never had anymore trouble with it after many, many miles.
