Well,
I haven't made a picture of the garage in my house yet as the 500 has not arrived yet but during winter time I park most of the cars I don't drive in my fathers garage. Just difficult to get it all on one picture.biggrin2

Not quite so fancy, but here are some of the "great classics" from our old cowhouse. There are a couple of sad looking Alfa Spiders, even sader looking Fiat 500, a Russian made -59 Moskvitsh, Alfa 33 and GTV, Opel Rekord, Renault Fuego "rene Arnoux" special, Jag, etc:

wreckmaster
26th January 2009, 06:41
What a great barn:icon_thumleft::clappinghands::clappinghands: What year is that Rekord? I just love the roof luggage carrier on it:cool: Is the 500 an ordinary 500 or an Abarth? Tought it had abit strange rear wheel arches....lol
And what a lovely Moskvitchbiggrin2

Look at this: Volga GAZ M-21

VilleV
26th January 2009, 06:52
If I remember correct the Rekord is from 1960. It used to be a van, but someone has cut windows to its sides at some point. I believe someone has just tuned that 500 a little, because it´s not an abarth. Got to love that Volga too, it seems to be in great condition!

That Moskvitsh is amazing. Despite the way it looks everything in it works. And who said that russians cant make cars?:D

VilleV
26th January 2009, 06:58
Here is one more, an overview of the upstairs of the cowhouse. Downstairs is heated, but this upstairs part is cold space in the winter. I quess it´s a good thing, because cars dont rust when it´s below 0...

wreckmaster
26th January 2009, 08:06
WOW!!!!!!!! How many cars do you and your father have? I would really like a barn like that:cool::cool:

VilleV
26th January 2009, 08:34
I think there must be nearly 25 cars and few motorcycles alltogether, and most of the cars are in good condition, but some, as you can see, need a bit of work. Most of them are my fathers, but it´s not hard to see where I got my genes from, if you know what I mean... We are keen on these so called youngtimers, basic cars mainly from -80s, that are rapidly disappearing from the streets. I think it is our duty to try to save at least some of them to the generations to come!lol

I would love to have a garage!
We have more than 300 acres of beautiful farm land surrounding us, we are on the site of an old airfield with a perimeter road which is great, but all work is done outside in the cold, wind, snow (if desperate) and wearing very thick, warm overalls and drinking lots of tea!!!!

I have a small garage that would take my bicycle, my motor scooter and my MX-5 [just]. there's also another bike and a dinghy and a workbench and lots of tools in there. My OH calls it his workshop but it's really my garage and when he started taking over when the MX-5 died, I just had to get another car that would fit in. The 500 fits the bill perfectly.

Here´s the latest addition to my dads Alfa collection. 2002 Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6, 220hp Sportronic. What a sweet drive for a "old" car I must say, I almost let him have my 500 and took this instead as the daily driver! Only thing stopping me was the almost 20L/100km consumption...:D

Maybe it´s because nobody really wants these cars and they are seriously undervalued, and for that reason they are also very rare. For example, at the moment there are 7 166s on sale on Finlands biggest internet carsale site and at the same time there are hundreds of Audi A6s, BMW 500-series and Merc E-classes on the same site. Here this car used to cost around 70 000 euros when it was new in -02 and now you can get one for 7000 euros and at same time those Audis and Bimmers are still around 12000 - 14000 euros.

I haven't a picture at hand, but my garage is a weird 2-level contraption with hydraulic lifting system. On the lower level, my neighbours have their Passat Estate, and I have the upper level. Which means I have to lower the contraption, drive my car uphill until the front wheels are gaining hold in a trough at the top of the ramp, gear into neutral, handbrake full and don't forget to unscrew the aerial on the roof. Because the clearance above the socket is only about 3 cm once the contraption is raised again . No problem with keeping the place tidy, though. You cannot put anything in it in addition to the car.

Lefteris' garage looks better than my living room :D.

Now, what we have here is a Spanish and a German that try to make a conversation in a foreign language (English in that case) and that is great and it is kind enough of them both that try to contribute this way to our small but nice comunity!
Am sure that, what Pethead try to say is that it would be nice if you can make a post on the New Members forum and tell us a few things about yourself, this way the other members will have the opportunity to welcome you as well (non all of us read this thread).
We don't wont to start with the wrong foot or even lose new members for a misunderstandings like this!

I usually post my Newbie messages within a day or two of joining, but don't usally refrain from posting until I have sent it. Just like in real life, where you start chatting at a party, and then suddenly someone goes "Oh, and my name is Mary, by the way."

Pethead, friends?

I will write my "Newbie" message, and post some pictures once the weather lights up a bit (heavy snow and intermittent rain ATM --maybe in the afternoon, I'll have to clear the driveway again anyway :icon_rolleyes: ).

Finally :D.
Here are two pictures of my hydraulic duplex garage. Not very good, but my camera is only a small one without a proper flash, so I had to take what light was available.

In case you wonder where all the snow I was talking about went: We had a day of heavy rain and three days of "+" temperatures, so the streets are mostly clear now (we do have a huge pile of snow in the garage yard, slowly thawing).

My car (pretty dirty) on its "shelf" in the first pic and the whole contraption raised in the second pic:

Cool! So does the Passat go down when you want to get out? Or does it have to go out first?

Cinquecittà
12th December 2010, 11:49
No, the Passat stays where it is. In the second picture, you see these green posts with a black round handle on both sides. The black handle is attached to the security bearing, which I have to remove (turn upwards) first. Then the posts will fold and the hydraulic will move both levels downward. They are hinged on the far end of the lower level. There is a pit of about 1.50 m depth into which the Passat is moved.

The "standard position" is "contraption in the Up position" which means a bit more work for me to park and get my car. But then the "lower level" owners paid more for their spot. The lower level will accomodate cars up to the size of Passat and Prius, the upper level will take Fiat 500, Ford Ka, and equivalent size, provided they aren't higher than 150 cm and in case of a hatchback not longer than 360 cm or so (and it still depends on the form of the roof: Mine has about 3 cm above the aerial socket...)

Ok, I couldn't remember if the 1300 had the curved windscreen too; it seems needlessly complicated to have two different kinds of windscreen!

I wouldn't have guessed about the GS! lol Lovely cars although I didn't like the looks when they first came out! They were very comfy to drive though, and I did get to like them later... Wouldn't mind one now, although my dream car is still the DS! :icon_thumright:

It's even worse! There was the 1300 that looked like any beetle with a very slightly curved windscreen; the car had the classic beetle front suspension. Then there was the 1302 with a slightly curved windscreen and still the classic beetle dashboard, but with a longer front, McPherson suspension and a larger luggage trunk, and finally the 1303 with a real curved windscreen and a different dashboard.
I remember the McPherson beetles always having vibrations at the steering around 90 km/h.

Thanks Wrecky! This picture is a little old because my 500 have now the chrome stickers in the bonnet and an italian flab behind the plate number.
I should take another picture today and compare both photos.biggrin2

(Love underground parking, no hassle with snow shoveling or technical problems. I tend to drive against column, though :icon_rolleyes: ).

I think I bought the stripe in ebay.
About the underground garage, it has a problem. If it rains too much, it gets flooded.

Well,
I haven't made a picture of the garage in my house yet as the 500 has not arrived yet but during winter time I park most of the cars I don't drive in my fathers garage. Just difficult to get it all on one picture.biggrin2

Ferrari Mondial Quattrovalvole 1983, the latest acquisition to my fathers garage. Very nice experience to get to drive a Ferrari for the first time ever, even if it was almost thirty years old! Sun shining, temperature hitting +30c, roof down, third gear, full throttle... (only for a while ofcourse)

Imported from US, Oregon to be more precise, and waiting to get finnish license plates.

^ Very interesting car. Ferrari with back seat, soft top and engine mounted transversely! :icon_thumleft:

Looks very good! Would like to hear some comments how is it to drive? I'm so jealous. Hopefully you had a change to rev in a tunnel :D

It´s quite hard work!:D Everything feels very heavy to use, the clutch, the gear lever and especially the steering, but once you get the car going its a very revarding drive. The sound it makes is astonishing, steering is very accurate and the chassis is actually quite comfortable! It drives much better over bumps than my 500 for example!! Unfotunately tho there vere no tunnels where I was driving, but the roof was down so I could hear the V8 right behind me very well indeed.

A couple more (cellphone) photos of the Mondial. Not the prettiest Ferrari ever, especially with those after market rims I have to say, but hopefully the ´63 E-type will add some beauty to the picture.

The E-type first came out in ´61 so it´s celebrating it´s 50th birthday this year! Introduced in Geneva motorshow it cost less than 2000 pounds back then. That´s around 38000 pounds in todays money, which was half to price of cheapest Aston Martin or Ferrari, even though it was faster than either of those. Enzo Ferrari himself said it was the most beautiful car in the world...:

I LOVE the old E-Type's. :D

I know I'm a bit weird, but I like the 73-74 2+2's. :icon_rolleyes:

on a similar note, anyone remember seeing the old movie "Harold and Maude"? the kid took a BRAND NEW (at the time) E-Type, cut it up, and made a HEARSE out of it!

Some serious car collection you're starting to have! :icon_thumright:

F348 is a really nice addition. Rear lights may not be as stylish as in F328 or F355 but otherwise still very modern looking sportscar.

I wonder if there's a greater plan with this scuderia to go public...?

VilleV

I havent actually seen this car yet and these photos are sent to me by my father, so all I know it´s a rosso corsa but I have no idea what the interior colour is called. I also know it´s a -92 model 348, 3.4 litre V8 with 312hp, top speed of 275kph and 0-100 in 5.6. My plan is to go see it and test drive it on this sunday and also take some photos my self.

I agree with you Consigliere about the rear lights, they are not as stylish as for example 355 which is my favorite Ferrari anyway. But the 348 is quite modern looking for a 20 year old model even tho it´s quite a lot less powerfull than modern equivalent sports cars.

We´ll have to see what happens, but I´d definitely be interested for example to take this car to next years Bella Italia...

I think the video doesn't capture all of the excitement that this cavallino can produce. I heard 348 starting this summer and I was surprised of the extremely nice sounds.

This is true, no video can do justice to this car. Or a photo for that matter. It´s a lot more exiting car when you see it for real I think.
