View Full Version : Paint Protection Film - Rear Arches
R 500 POP

I've noticed that the 500's for Nordic conditions have a clear paint protection film on the front edge of the rear wind (where it bulges in front of the wheels).
Does anybody know if there is an after market set of this available?

well, my friendly Fiat parts man has been on the case.
They are not UK stock.....BUT he can order them, for the pricley sum of £5 per pair!!!!!
So I've ordered 2 pairs, I'll mees with one sheet & make some protectors to cover the area to the rear lower adge of the door aperture that sticks out, after 13,000miles my last 500 was peppered here.

i work for porsche and have found that 987 boxster 1\4 panel stone foil,s fit on the rear arches , if you have no fitted foils before they can be a bit tricky you need a soapy water spray and a rubber spreader . i will try and post some pic's next time i fit some ;)

Hi
Just about to take delivery of a BNW 500, and wonder if you guys managed to get the paint protection film from Fiat...
I'm a bit fussy with paintwork....and absolutely hate paintchips; any chance to hold them at bay is worth it!
Cheers

Hello Pete and welcome!
So called "Nordic pack" up here includes protective film in front of the rear wheel arches but that´s all, I think. This part of the car is infamous for chipping I´m afraid! It also seems that the Fiat paint really isnt very hard and it definitely has a bad tendency for stone chips! During last winter paintchips on my car have multiplied by atleast three, and especially the part in front of the rear wheels has taken many hits...:icon_rolleyes:

Hi
Thanks for the welcome and the very swift reply. I'll try our dealer for the 'Nordic Pack'; bet he will have no idea about it at all!!
It seems that all modern paint is pretty soft, ever since the environmentalists had paints with solvents as good as withdrawn from use.
I expect you could have done with a bit of 'global warming' in Finland; might have saved you the cost of winter tyres...! :D

I think this nordic pack is only installed on cars coming over here plus Sweden and Norway (maybe some parts of Russia too?). I think it also includes more powerful heater and seat heaters (didnt back in -08 but does now(?)), as where cars going to warmer countries have more powerful aircons etc. But I pet you can buy this film from many places and ably it by your self for that matter!
Talking about global warming, no sign of it last winter!:D It was the coldest winter in decades! From mid december til early may the temperature stayed below zero, and mainly around -20c! I have to say it was "a little" hard for my Fiat, but in the end it managed the conditions ok (atleast nothing broke on it). If you dont count the occasional strange noises or troubles starting if not heated properly beforehand that is...:p

Same thing here..... Way below zero from december too far out in April:( The largest drawback on the 500 IMO is the poor heather! Even tough it is supposed to be better / stronger up here in the nordic countries than in southern Europe:confused:
When it comes to stonechips my car has been pretty good:icon_thumleft: I have some on the hood and the front bumper, but not very much:) I also have the nordic cover in front of the rear wheel arches:icon_thumleft: I think the most important thing when it comes to prevent stonechips is to keep a good distance from the car in front of you:icon_thumright: 1001-1002-1003+++lol
BTW :welcomeon500: Pete:)
Greetings from Norway:)

Thats a pity. I was looking forward to getting the film.
Could anyone in Norway post a dealer contact, (email if possible) so I could get some posted to the UK. I would be prepared to buy a few sets.
I was going to make some film protection strips for the bit that is just behind the rear edge of the door out of the same protective film.

Would it be possible for a Norway Fiat retailer to send the stone chip protect film?.
If anyone on this forum could send me a Dealer email address (Norway Dealer) I could try and get a set posted to the UK. If anyone else is interested please let me know. I am also going to make a film for the front of the rear wing just near the corner of the door.

I´m not sure this part has got a number! It just regular stonechip protection film that you can get from several manufacturers, for example 3M and Venture shield.
Here´s a couple of links for you guys:

Here´s one picture for you so can see how the film is placed on the car. Just in front of the rear wheel. There´s also some film in the arch below the door!

VilleV, thanks for your reply. I know about the other suppliers but they are furiously expensive. I know that the manufacturers film is a good price usually. The other thing is the fiat protection would be original. The reason I asked for a part number is that the dealer needs it to order them. They have looked on the UK system and nothing is listed that would be stone chip protection film. They could have been lazy and not looked too hard, and just asked for number so I would go away. But I have bought items from them before and I have every faith that a number would get me the product.
If all else fails I suppose I could get some film from ebay and cit it myself. The problem is that it may look cut and not stamped out if you know what I mean.
I will let you know what I decide to do. All my journeys are motorway, thats the reason I need the film. I also try and keep a distance away from the car in front, but other drivers thing I am leaving the space for them and drive too close into the space. They see a little Fiat and think they should be in front of it.

Maybe the original poster can help you guys in the UK. The price for the original tape is very cheap I have to admit! If I can find out what the Fiat part number is I will post here asap!

Yeh I have seen the Boxter film and it looks like it does the job.
The reason for me wanting Fiat ones are to keep the car looking standard. I know I would be able to remove them if I sell the car, but at the moment I would like the original Fiat items. If I struggle to get them then yes I am looking for alternatives, so I will let you know what I do. Thanks very much by the way. I live in Yorkshire anyway.
If I decide to get some film and cut my own, I will make them like the Fiat ones and I will make the one in front of the rear of the door. I will post pics when it is done. I think I will be doing it in the next week or two.
