Just another little thing that I forgot to mention.
Every time I washed my windscreen the driver's side washer jet popped out, then one day it popped off  (It was the barrel part that popped out of the side of the housing).
Dealer have another one on order but have said this will take some time as there is apparently a change in the design of the washer jets due to this problem.

There has been lots of problems with windscreen wibers juddering in right hand drive cars. Donīt know if this washer jet problem is related with that.

This is interesting !
I wonder if they have modified the jets on newer models, when was yours registered ?
My wipers give a single 'judder' occasionally, but I put this down to the windscreen being dry. Have to keep an eye on it....... well I would, wouldn't I, the wipers are right in front of me !! biggrin2

Mine is in the garage, my right washer assembly has completely disiintergrated!!!! I must be a design flaw in the 500

Thatīs a bit worrying!!!

The entire assembly is broken all the jets are pointing is completely different directions!!

Did it broke all by it self? Nothing hit it or something like that?

Mine broke all by itself when washing the window. Apparently this also happened with the Punto's a few years ago. My washer jet has been on back order now since before Christmas.

Again makes me wonder if this has something to do with right hand drive convertion. Maybe Fiat has done these convertions cheaply, because I haven+t heard anythink like this happen on a left hand drive car. Or that windscreen wiper juddering thingy either. I would think that washer jets would have to be different depending on which side the driver is sitting.

Nope just broke randomly

You didnt try using them when frozen up ? That would have caused pressure on them

I did accidently but they worked fine after they thawed out.

Same thing happened with my Defender if you tried to use the washers, the nozzle popped out or the pipe inside detached. Learnt my lesson after it happened the second time! Now I don't use the washers if the temperature is low............. just in case !

28th January 2009, 14:23
The weird thing is that they broke when the temperature was about 8 degrees so I dont think it could be a pressure problem

Mine just popped out and it was above 10 degrees at the time. Fiat have definitely confirmed a design flaw here on my last trip to the dealership. Still waiting for part to come in, it's been 6 - 8 weeks now!

Is that possible:confused: Its when the temp is below zero and the roads are salted you really need the washers. I use a full tank of washer fluid every second day I think. About 2-3 washing fluid tanks to one tank of petrolbiggrin2 :icon_thumleft:

Do people in Britain use window washer fluids that dont freeze when its below zero? Because if not I think that would be a good reason for the washers to pop out. At least here in the Nordic countries we use fluids that dont freeze until its -30c or even more. If you use pure water for sure it will freeze!
Cadbury

Yeah, we use screen wash which is purported not to freeze...... might not freeze in the bottle but certainly freezes everywhere else.:(

I use the stuff that is designed "for northern climates" and can stay fluid down to "-15". It still gets jammed up though.
Also when being fixed, it turned out the bonnet catch is also faulty, and its getting replaced as well.

-15 is not nearly enough for "nordic conditions". We use fluids that stay fluid down to -30 or even -50 degrees. Iīve had stuff that supposed to stay fluid until -25 freeze when itīs -20 or so outside and this made the washer fluid hose pop out from the fluid container down in the engine bay (hope you understand;)). Itīs been a relatively cold winter in Britain if Iīm correct, so maybe freezing could have been the cause?

Well it was not frozen... A hoseconnection has jumped off. Tryed the washers and it fell on the ground under the car... It works fine on the rear window.
So I went to the dealer, but they couldn`t help me:mad: Because the garage is gone :infuriato::infuriato:
What is the point of buying a brand new car if it cant be fixed when you have trouble....I could do it my self but I dont fancy laying in the snow and taking fragile plastic parts apart when it is subzero degrees outside(have to be done from underside:( )

Thatīs a real shame about your garage!!! You donīt have any place where to lift your car up, then?
Where exactly is this hose that is falling off? I mean can you pin point it so that if I ever run into this problem I could easily find it. Do you know allready is it possible to fix it yourself?

No I havent actually seen it. It is just what I belive since the washing fluid falls on the ground... Cant see the problem from the top of the car so I have to lift it up....Must find a place and then I will come back with more details:icon_thumleft:

Luckily this doesnt seem like too serious problem. The way you descriped it it sounds like a loose hose indeed. Only thing that worries me is that this has happened on several cars now!

The dealer told me that he knew that this had happend on several cars....While I was there I asked how long it was since they had sold a new car? The answer was one week, but at least it was a 500:icon_thumleft:
Not much going on these days at the dealers I guess......financial depression:eek:

Fixed my washer jets today....Went to the dealer and said that it is not my problem that they dont have a garage...So we did take the car into the washing garage and a guy from the dealer fixed it...An easy fix really.
The problem was in the top, but we had to remove the big plastic piece that covers the torpedo wall in the front of the windscreen. Some plastic screws were broken but he should order some new for me...When this plastic cover was loos we easily acessed the loose hose. It was fallen of a T looking connection and it was pretty easy to push it on again. We used a very small strips to secure it....So now it is working again:icon_thumleft:
Good service from the dealer really, since they dont have a garage at the time beeing. :icon_thumleft:

I have a problem with my driver's side washer jets as well. They just decided to stop working one day and I've been told the parts are on back-order and they have no delivery time for them. Interesting to know this is a fairly common problem and that they are redesigning them. Hopefully it won't be too long as it's driving me mad only having one washer that sprays across the windscreen!

Cant the dealer take the part from another 500 in the shop?

Well you would think so, but apparently it doesn't work like that. It's the same when you go to the supermarket and they have no red onion left to put on your pizza. They can't just go and get one from the veg aisle...... don't get me started!

Well they did for me:icon_thumleft: When they fixed the disconnected washer jet hose they lost some plastic screws and they took new ones from another 500. They were making the plastic piece in the front of the windshield / fire wall sit tight:p

See, that's what makes a good dealer/garage. I'm stuck with the less helpful variety!

Sign of the times I am afraid, the younger technicians can only fit new parts and perhaps would not know how to repair a part.
