http://www.500fans.com/showthread.php?p=1477#post1477 (http://www.500fans.com/showthread.php?p=1477#post1477) Those photos at the dealer look just like my car did this morning. Except it might have been even more snowy here when I got up for work at 6. I think there was some 20cm of new snow everywhere and no snowplows to be seen!
:confused:I might just be imagining, but I was hearing really weard noises from my car. Every time I turned the wheel to a full lock and started off Iīm sure I heard a rattling noice coming somewhere around the front wheels (which side I donīt know). Not sure what might have caused it though. Might have been the esp doing something because my front wheels were spinning every time I started off. Or maybe just snow packed into the tire pattern flying off to inside of the front wing. It got me little worried though, but I hope nothings wrong.

Dont know if its the same sound, but everytime I have driven over a speed bump lately I have had a knocking sound. I belive it comes from the right front side. Like a broken spring or frozen shock absorber. But it is not very cold outside, about zero degrees:confused:

Doesnīt sound like the sound Iīm hearing. I think our little Fiats donīt like the winter too much. Well, Iīm clad our cars are under warranty, so that if something is broken our dealers will fix it. In my case it might be (and propably is) just me being paranoid, because I tend to do that with my cars. I should just learn how to turn the music louder so I wouldnīt hear every little knock and rattle...

I had a knock from Bambina and it turned out to be the air intake pipe bolt being loose where it screws to the slam panel and the pipe was knocking. It kept coming undone so had to put a little thread lock on it but that sorted the problem straight away. :icon_thumleft:

Have to mention one thing recarding the sound I was hearing. Everytime it happened I started off in really deep snow, something like 10cm of loose snow on top of icy hard snow. And everytime there was also wheel spin with the front tires in a full lock, so I imagine it could have been the esp doing something because it was sensing that the car was skidding. Donīt know, but I cant find anything wrong with the car and itīs working perfectly otherwise, no rattles or knock of any sort. And roads here are in terrible condition right now, so I would think that if something was loose I would hear something.

I agree with you VilleV, in the way you describe it, it sound like it is the esp that does it job. In 10cm of snow I guess both front wheels dont have enough contact with solid ground all the time, so one wheel thinks it is off ground and sets off the esp.... It is not very often I have noticed the esp kickin in. Two or three times maybe. Iguess our 500`s like the italian riviera better than subzero degrees and snow we got this time of year....:399:

This feels like a real winter, a first one in a long time, with all the snow and subzero temperatures!

Hi,
If the car has traction control it might well be that the system is pulsing the brake of the spinning wheel in order to put the power to the non spinning one, so this would increase traction while acting as some kind of a limited slip differential.
On cars with very high mileage it also can be a driveshaft noise which I would exclude in this case.
Go and see the dealer if the problem persists on dry road where the wheels wouldn't spin.

Thanks Minime! I was kind of hoping you would comment on this. Yes the car does have traction control, and come to think of it, I couldnt reproduce this noice when I took it off. So thatīs propably whatīs making the sound. Iīm too paranoid...
