I have this idea that I imagine will look good on my 500. To strengten the retro image of it...
What I am thinking is this: 16" steel wheels in the cars body color(jive blue) with shiny crome moon centercaps...
What do you think of this? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? Not sure if it is possible to get 16" steel wheels which fit the 500 or moon center caps which fit the the wheels though.

Ps white sides would also look good together with this : )

I think it'll depend on the spec of the car.

it might look nice on a lounge with chrome trim etc, but not sure that it would compliment a sport so much..

I totally agree that it would look good! You see this idea sometimes for example in old VW Beetles. I was looking into this possibility when I was looking for winter wheels, but went for alloys.

I dont know if you can find steel wheels that fit 500 in 16", but for sure there is 15" available, so why not 16". I think that the center caps would have to be old Fiat caps from the original 500 or 600 or something else from that era.

It would look very good in a jive blue car, especially lounge.

I imagine it will look goodlol Just an crazy idea really, but it would be fun if I could make it happendlol When it gets closer to spring I think I will be asking some wheel companys if they got any ideas:icon_thumleft:

Haha... when I had steel wheels on my original 500 in the 70/80s... how I wished I had alloys. And now you are talking about dumping the alloys for steel wheelslol I did have 'fat' wheels though, I think they were
155x(forgotten.. too far back:()

I suppose anything is possible.

Times changelol I remenber that it was very popular with original steel wheels which was made wider by welding the middle of two wheels together on old PV`s, Amazons and 142`s. It was also popular on some Opels, Taunus and Cortina`s.... Those were the days......lollol Wasen`t legal though:cool:

:triste: Oh I wish I still had 'Aggy', my 1969 500. She had that shape and what a classic car it would be

I came across this photo and I had to dig this old thread back up! If someone is still considering white wall tyres this it what it would look like. I think they would go really well for example as winter wheels:

Those would be the icing on the cake! But maybe not something thatīs easy to find, Fiat hubcaps that fit modern steel wheels!

They dont have to be genuine Fiat ones, as Moon caps would look really retro on the 500:icon_thumleft:

There's one car in our german 500club.de that has the steel wheel/chrome ring combination during the winter season. That consists of the pure black steel wheel and the inner rings. There's no chrome in the middle of the wheel. I think it looks great specially when the car is a lounge. A 500 Sport don't need any additional chrome parts.

I think Iīve seen this one on Flickr before! And I also I think Iīve commented on the owners photos and complimented him/her for a nice job with the wheels!

I'd absolutely love it! I have driven Citroen 2CVs for about 20 years, and I always had my wheels sprayed in the body colour or white! I thought it looked fab!:icon_thumleft:
