I read this interisting thread on an another forum about insurance prices on the 500... It got me thinking back to when I insured my car:(
I tought the insurance through the dealer would be the cheapest one as they usually are. Well it was not: The insurance company that my dealer recomended sent me a bill on about 8000Nok = 910euros!!!!!!:eek:
This is on a car with 1,2l engine 69hp, brand new, parked in a garage, clean insurance history(no claims), good postal code, I am 30 years my wife is 28, I got B,C and 160( emergency vehicle)on my licence!!!!

To compare this with my other car which I also bought new and insured through a dealer: That car costed 3500kr = 399eur ayear. Back then I was 27 my wife was 24, no garage, the car was 50000kr more expensive = 5700eur, it had 1,4 l and 90hp and the rest is the same.

I got pretty mad when I got the bill from the insurance company on my 500 which was more than twice the price of my Opel....
So I said: No way that I am gona pay this price and started to call every insurance company I could think of...

All of them where extremly expensive on my 500:eek: And cheaper on my Astra:eek: I asked why the 500 was so expensive and no one of the insurance companys could give me an answer to this. They all agreed that it was way to expensive compared to other cars in this class...One of them even said that it was like the price on a Porsche:cool:

I finally found a Danish insurance company called Codan who had a fair price: 3000kr = 342eur... But even them were cheaper on my astra...

Have anyone of you experienced anything similar on your 500?

My experience is totally different and I find that insurance on my 500 is quite cheap. But Iīm not sure if our insurance policies are similar to yours. My insurance consist of two parts; a traffic insurance, which is mandatory, and a car insurance, which is optional. And my car being so new I also have additional insurance that will get me a new car if I crash. These together cost around 650 euros per year. But we also have a bonus system, so in case one hasent caused an accident he / she will colect bonuses, which will than make insurence cheaper. I for example have never crashed, so I have full 70% bonus on my car insurance and I only have to pay the remaining 30% of the total cost of the insurance. Altough my traffic insurance bonus is only about 20% because for a long time I didnīt have a car at all (I lived in the centre of city so didnīt need one, wouldnīt need one right now either, but I want to).

Compared to other cars Iīve had I find insuring my 500 relatively cheap. That may be because Fiats are usually driven by older gentlemen with hats on. And I think they keep their cars in good condition and donīt ran into too many accidents. This has an effect because our insurance companies keep listings of which cars have most or least accidents. Other than that, I live quite near the center of a relatively large city, which on the other hand makes my insurance cost more.

Sounds like pretty much the same system we got here...I got 70 or 80 % bonus. No earlier damages, have had one or two cars constantly the last 12 years. My insurance coveres Traffic which you have to have anf full car insurance with rental car, Falck membership, windshield insurance and more...I chose not to have the 3 year coverance which gives me a new car if it gets more damaged than it makes sense to fix. Only IF...got that here.

ok, so it seems that our insurances are the same. Except that here 70% bonus is maximum. I myself didnīt take the rental car option or the windshield insurance, but took the option to get a replacement car if I smash the old one. Iīm not going to keep it for longer than 3 years though. And you got all of that for 342e? I have to say that if you did you really got a good price!

I don't know how to tell you this chaps !

My insurance is due next month and I have been quoted Ģ263 for fully inclusive insurance (and I am ringing round to see if I can find it cheaper!!).

We, too, have a no claims bonus (which you can protect) and that allows you to have two accidents in three years. My policy has GAP for two years which means if Cadbury is damaged beyond repair:(, I will get a new car:). If an accident is my fault, I have to pay the first Ģ250 and Ģ75 for Windscreen cover (unlimited and doesnt affect my no claims bonus). However, we have to pay Road Tax... luckily the tax on a 500 is really cheap Ģ35. (My Land Rover Defender would have cost over Ģ300).

The accident I had last year has not affected my insurance as it wasn't my fault and I was paid out in full by the third party.

Our roadtax is 2750kr which is 313 euros. The same price for all cars under 3500kg....But it is beside the insurance so the road tax bill we get from the department of customs and taxes. (Treassury dep??)

The final price on my 500 wasent bad at all, I only think it strange that all the other insurance companys were so expensive on that litle car. They even admitted that them selflol

We too have a road tax. Now itīs around 130 euros for every car, but beginning next year the tax will be based on the co2 emissions, so 1.2 500 with 119co2/km will cost around 54 euros per year!:icon_thumleft: I like the sound of that! But oh man is Norway an expencive place in every aspect!!!

Insurance down here is very reasonable :) I pay $420 AU about 215 euros :) for fully comprehensive and no excess if it was not my fault, as I found out when the *%$#!! hit my rear bumper.

By comparison my Lotus Elise was $2000AU a year

Does this cover your own damages as well even if you are the quilty party? If it does, not a bad price!

After one year of arguing, discussing, sending faxes and letters, I managed to get converted my 12 German problem-less insurance-years by an Italian insurance company. But however the cost is very high... I paid nearly 600 euros and if I crash the car I won't get anything. For my last German Car (Smart Forfour) I paid 400 euros including the "kasko" that pays damages caused to the car by myself...

But Italian numberplates are more stylish... lol ...and the road tax is 60 euros cheaper than in Germany (in Tuscany 143€).

Yeah, me too, full kasko. I somehow thought that kasko was a native word...lol

I'm not really sure about it... but in Italian "casco" means "helmet". Maybe in international insurance language they changed the 2 C with K for creating a new word for this "protection"? Even in Italian the insurance company call it "kasko".

Your Kasko is our fully comprehensive. We have three types of cover

Fully comprehensive
Vehicle repaired whether or not it is your fault. Insurance Company
tries to recover costs if you are not at fault.

Third Party Fire and Theft
Should you be at fault, the third party's costs are paid but yours are
not.

Fire and Theft
Speaks for itself

Added to this we have a 'no claims bonus'. This is earnt by not making a
claim on the insurance (apart from windscreen). After four years without
a claim, you can pay a premium and have this bonus protected.

I have managed to insurance Cadbury for Ģ191.05 - fully comprehensive with no-claims protected, and with a replacement car in case I am without her. The price ended up being cheaper than my 7 year old Fiesta. Just shows it pays to shop around.
