SOME people spend years saving for a car like this, but one unlucky owner could be about to have it towed away and crushed.
The Porsche Carrera has been languishing in Guildford Spectrum’s car park for weeks, and last Friday, council officials slapped a notice on the back window threatening to crush it.
The car – which costs more than £73,000 when new and has a top speed of 185mph – is not displaying a valid tax disc.
The notice left by Guildford Borough Council claims that the car has been ‘abandoned without lawful authority’, and gave the owner 24 hours before it is removed/destroyed.
Cllr Jenny Wicks, lead councillor for the environment, said factors which help the authority decide whether a vehicle has been abandoned include the length of time it has stayed in its spot, as well as its condition and whether it has number plates.
The person who abandoned the Porsche could also face three months in jail.
A Guildford Spectrum spokesman said staff members reported the car, which is now covered in a layer of dust, to the council after it remained uncollected for weeks.
“It is a complete mystery to us,” he said. “We would love to find out who the owner is and reunite them with their beautiful car.”
The Porsche has a black leather interior, and there is a hand-drawn map on the passenger’s seat and a golf umbrella on the parcel shelf.
Lindsay Armstrong, of the Surrey Classic Vehicle Club, said the council should think of alternatives to crushing the Porsche.
“It would be such a terrible shame to see such a beautiful car destroyed,” he added.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said the car has not been reported stolen, and there are no reports of it being used in a crime.

OH!
I wondered where I'd left that lol
I doubt very much if that would be crushed they only crush scrap,
in the uk they have government auctions where higher end car's boat's, etc
go for sale stuff like this porsche for parking penalty's, customs and excise
or been seized from drug dealer's and the like.
But no ordinary man in the street seems to be able to bid on this stuff
I'v been in the motor trade a while now I'v never seen one of these auctions up here in sunny glasgow.
no doubt the home secretary's son in law will snap it up for £50 and it'll be tooling round london before too long.
I remember a guy on the passionford website that claimed a cosworth escort off the street it had been lying for 2 years , he more or less stole someones car .
I think he may be in trouble if the guy's been in the jail, get's out finds his
car gone and then find's him
I'll try and find the link

Oh, Ah,
I didn't remember where I parked it.biggrin2
Will pick it up by tomorrow, just tell me where I left it....
Yes, sometimes we have similar things happening over here too, especially in the Parking house close to the train station.
I think there are sometimes people that are running business in the red light district, that are either going for a few years on holiday to a very far country (jail) or they run somewhere in other trouble (open knife) or they simply die from lead poisoning which makes the car obsolete to them.lol
I have seen a Porsche 928 standing at a local dealership that one of those clients once brought in for service and he never picked it up anymore.
Once the delay for public sale was passed, it was totally rotten as it took years.
Myself I bought once at the local dealership a Porsche 914/6 (Lefteris knows well what it is) on public sale after the owner didn't pick it up for 5 years and also this one was just good enough to use it for spare parts after this time standing outside in the rain.:(
Just keep a good contact with your local dealers and keep your ears open, there are sometimes amazing opportunities.

Thats bizzare. Maybe the car is a proceed of crime, and the owner dumped it off to avoid being caught?? Why dont they auction it off??? And give the proceeds to charity or something, its a bit daft to crush a car of such high value!! Still its not as bad as thailand :

Hey,
Now I know where Ferrari got the design for the convertible from.
I'm sure they did it because it wasn't the right color, as it should be red.
Always remember, it could be worse, can you imagine doing this to an Abarth?
I had to do this to some of our former test cars, it's a strange feeling but what else can you do with it, they were looking new but you could never sell them to anybody even not internal to the company as sooner or later they would show up in private hands and then trouble begins.:(
Don't ask me about the cars I have seen being scrapped, some of them still haunt me in my dreams, even after 10 years and more. It's them hooting at night in front of my bedroom door, I'm sure it's them....:hair-raising::hair-raising::hair-raising::hair-raising:
Just have a last look under the bed......ok, maybe this night they'll let me sleep....

Did this to a number of brand new Toyotas a few years back. The Toyota dealer was on fire and we where called out by the fire dept to evacuate cars from the burning showroom... Some of them had soot marks from the blaze and others you could not see was damaged at all:eek: We had them in storage for a while then Toyota decided to crush them... We had to take pictures before under and after the crushing of each car to document that they really where destroyed. Then we had to mail the pics to the Toyota insurance company. This was brand new Avensis, Corolla, Rav4 and Yaris ( I think).lol
