Hmmm

I think fiat's marketing department have lost their mind first with the barbie monstrosity and now this , I have a feeling this 500 ad has sort of missed the point of the little car's image completely:

This is in stark contrast to every other Fiat 500 advert out on TV like the British one shown last year.

I believe this ad was one of the first ones to come out when the 500 was launched in 2007. I dont get the message though, but maybe its because I dont speak italian.

It dosent really suit the car, that's my issue with it. Its in contradiction to their advertising policy over here.

Maybe itīs about how fiat has always played a big part in italian life and society and how fiat has been involved in great events in history, in sorrow and happiness. What ever its supposed to say I dont understand, but I have to say that italian language does sound beautiful!

I don't speak Italian and it is ashame there is not a member from Italy on this forum to explain but... might it not be explaining history thru the past ?years and perhaps the good things that have happened.... including the 500 ?

The 1957 Fiat 500 is an important symbol of the rise of the Italian Economy and for Italian history after the war. Nearly every Italian has a special feeling for this car. The 500 is part of Italian history.

This ad from 2007 uses these feelings and emotions with pictures of the last 50 years of Italian history. The message is that as the old 500 was a part of this history and also the new one will do so. The 2007 500 was the last in a row of new models that saved Fiat from ruin and that offered Italian style with a new level of quality. The claim of the spot is in the end "The new Fiat belongs to us all"... to all the Italians.

Obviously they had to invent another marketing for the other countries... when I've seen the usual spot the first time in German TV I found that one "bizzare"... ;)

I've found a subtitled version of one of these spots (if I remember right, there were 3 of it, with only small differences). This one I like the most... it also shows the Berlin wall coming down!

And even in France it seems they used this spot:

But the last sentence is slightly different: "The new Fiat is also part of your history."
