View Full Version : Alfa MiTo, I´m so tempted!

Finally we´ve got prices for the Alfa Mito here and I have to say that they are very tempting indeed! The base price for the 78hp model is 16900e, but what´s great is that the top of the range 155hp distinctive version is only 20990e!!! I was expecting that it would cost at least 25000e, so you can understand my excitement!:yahoo:
I wouldn´t want to sell my 500, but my girlfriends Corsa is definitely in the line of fire here! But at the moment this is the one car I would propably consider changing my 500 for.

You may like it now, (I like it also) but in a few years time it will be just an other small car! ;)

I know you have a point there, my friend! I should listen to you, and the sound of sence in the back of my mind!

I think most Alfas are timeless because they have really nice design, you can see that it is Italian:icon_thumleft: A 7-8 years old 147 is still a beautiful car today or a 156 etc.... I can fully understand that you want one VilleV! But then again the 500 is also a future classic:p And trading in a Corsa for a MiTo cant be a bad thinglollol

I like the MiTo, especially the GTA. But it doesn't have that appeal/ special factor like the 500s.Maybe I can convince my friend or my brother to get one. I'll stick with the esseesse. lol

The new Delta is a great looking car in my opinion too, and you can actually see one in the first picture above just behind the Mito.
I think Lefteris but it well when he said that in a few years time Mito will be just another small car! This comment alone made me steer towards keeping my 500 for a long long time! On the other hand as Wreckmaster said Alfas of the past are still stylish, but he also said that the 500 is a definitive future classic, which is absolutely true. Thanks for your input, I´ve reached a piece of mind! For now.lol

I honestly don't understand what you guys see in this car... I don't like the design. But each to his or her own I guess :)
At least we agree on the 500 :D

I can see why this Mito can devide peoples opinions. I happen to like it alot, and not least because of the resemblance to the 8c competizione, plus I´ve always been a huge fan of all Alfas. Also the performance of the alfa is so much better than the 500 (no abarth available here), but I should remember that almost 90% of my driving is in or near the city centre and journeys are 3-10 km long.

Most Alfas are simply beautiful, while most Fiats are notlol. Except for the 500 and the GP/Bravo:icon_thumleft: But Fiat has got some nice ones in the past tough. I agree with you Ville that it reminds quite a bit of the 8C Competizone:cool::cool:

I dont think its the best looking Alfa on the Market, id rather have a 147 or a spider or a Brera , they are better looking than the MiTo.

Hmmm, I'm still undecided about it.

It needed to grow a little on me too, but now I love the looks of it. Special the similarity to the 8c competizone:cool:

I think cars that have to grow on you are the best! Their styling tends to last over time better. And this similarity to 8c certainly doesnt hurt...

I finally got to test drive the Mito today. This Mito was in Progression trim level with a 155hp 1.4 turbo petrol engine and I immediately fell in love with the engine (which is basicly the same engine with the 135hp Abarth engine, only with little more grunt)!
Otherwise I´m having mixed emotions about the car. I think the performance was great, but I wasnt so sure about the build quality. This car had less than 300km on the clock, but allready it had rattles coming from the plastics inside the car. And at one point during the test drive the D.N.A swich refused work at all and it kept telling me that "dynamic" and "all-weather" -modes were unavailable (if someone doesnt know what this DNA swich is, its basicly (trying to be) the same as the "manettino" swich in Ferraris and allowes the driver to choose between three pre-programmed drive settings; D is sport, N is normal and A is for bad weather). Also the sun visors kept wobbling so that I wasnt sure weather or not they would stay in upright position, and the dash reflected really badly on to the windscreen.
And also the steering wheel was not centered with the driver. Also the 500 has this quirkiness, but in the Mito it was much more obvious.
Another negative thing was the steering itself. It really does lack feel and and the feeling it had was very artificial. But other than that the car drove really well and had plenty of grip. This car had 16" wheels on it there was very little road noice and it handled very well any roughness of the road without being harsh.
All in all the Mito made me feel really special and it felt like a car that I would definitely like to spend many hours in. Only big trouble is, that there´s allways someone on your way when your trying to find a cap where to open the throttle a bit, and also the darn speedlimits tend to bother a little... And the noice it makes when you are accelerating while changing gears.. Its just something to die for...
So, would I change my 500 for it? No, I just dont think so. But if I was to buy another car, it might very well be the Mito.

Nothing is like a 500:icon_thumleft: At least dont buy a MiTo before you have tried a Abarth:) But the MiTo is beautiful:icon_thumleft: Thats a good thing about the 1,2 engines in the 500`s, you dont brake the speedlimits so easylol

I saw a red Mito yesterday here in Naantali. The one and only in this
area I suppose.

I´ve finally managed to get over this Mito fever (a little bit), but occasionally it still keeps coming back!biggrin2 Abarth fever is taking over tho! If I had any other car than the 500 I would have probaply bought the Mito, but I just like the 500 so much that I dont want to get rid of it!
By the way, I´ve been reading some Mito forums and it seems there are some niggles with many cars. Eg. doors not opening when it gets chilly, and then when they finally do open they dont shut, alarms going off by them selves and biggest of all the loss of hill hold assist, DNA switch and power steering and the car going into "limp mode". When I was on my test drive the on-board computer said "dynamic not available" when I tried to use the dna switch at some point. I had to pull over and re-start the car, after that the DNA started to work again.

Who says you need to pull over? Find a clear stretch of road, clutch in, kill the engine and restart. lol Thats safe, right? ;)
