Now I know why I never got a wave back

When I bought my first smart, everyone waved at each other. But the more popular they became, the less people waved back. I was flashed and waved at by another 500 a few weeks ago and was so excited about waving back I nearly put my hand through the windscreen! lol Most other 500 drivers round here refuse to make eye contact........I'm sure they think I'm some kind of weirdo!

Unfortunately:(, there are only one or two 500s where I live... so I look forward to returning my tortoise to the vet in a fortnight for two reasons (1) to see how Slow Coach's fracture is doing... and (2) I may be lucky to see that lady again:Dlol

Hi,
Classic Mini drivers are waving each other too.
New Mini drivers and classic Mini drivers ignore each other.
The new Mini driver ignores the classic one because the owner of the classic one drives the real thing and the classic Mini driver ignores the new Mini driver because to be honest, that one owns the more confortable car.biggrin2
Probably we have to look for the acceptance from classic 500 drivers, but there are not many of them left out there..lol

I haven't seen many 500s when driving in mine and the ones that I have seen haven't been that close to get a reaction or wave. However once I followed an old 500 (H reg I think ) and when we pulled up at the lights , the lady waived at me . I was with my wife at the time (she tells me that I am ugly !) so it was definitely the car that this lady was waiving atlol
I have come across this "Mini situation " before .I know this guy who is a Mini fan , but only the original Mini  He tells me that many in "Mini clubs" do not recognise or appreciate the new BMW reincarnation/reinvention In fact there is a hatred for it:(
Now, I not heard that this is the case with the 500 and it would be sad if it was.I think that there should be a mutual appreciation:icon_thumleft:

Love this!
We live in Swindon and see several, but only some wave and flash. There is a particular lady who drives a grey one who actually makes the effort to stick her nose in the air and ignore us! :infuriato:
Just to say though, if I ever saw you guys I would always flash.

Yes, they should have done. Some people are so ignorant.
Do you think we should have a British meet? A small gathering somewhere?

Autoglym is OK really. Of the ordinary consumer stuff it is like the middle of the three. I would say that Meguires is a bit better. The difference is that Autoglym contents only fillers that dont remove the swirls, while the Megs ScratchX contents a chemical solution that take the edge of the swirls and make them less vissible. It does not remove the swirls completly but softens the edges so the edeges dont make the reflections in daylight. I also think Megs DC1, 2 and 3 makes a deeper and richer shine. When using products with fillers the swirls will appear again when washed a number of times and the coats of polishes and waxes tears down.
The results of the scratchX improves even more when used with a DA polishing machine. Anyway the Autoglym products also gives a good shine:icon_thumleft:
When done with your car buy a really good car soap, a couple of buckets, a good washmitt and a good drying towel(No chamois). Trow away your old sponges, chamois and turtle wax products to keep the car nice, shiny and swirl free:icon_thumleft:

Easy really: Buy a good washmitt ( microfiber or sheepskin), a good car shampoo( I prefer Megs NXT for really dirty cars and Megs softwash for not so dirty cars, use two buckets( one for soap solution and one to rinse your mitt after every panel). You could also buy gritguards to have in the bottom of your buckets that traps the dirt in the bottom of the bucket so you wont get it back on the paint with your mitt. The secret is to have as little directly contact with the cars paint as possible, so before washing you should use a foam gun or foam lance with an soap solution to spray on to your car. Let this work for a few minutes and rinse off with a hose or highpreassure washer. Then wash. After washing you rinse off again. For drying your car you should use a waffleweave microfiber drying towel( Megs watermagnet etc...) Never use a chamois. And never use a sponge.
Here comes the whole thing in right order:
1- Foam your car and let work 5-9minutes
2- HP off the soap
3- wash the car using two buckets and rinse washmitt after every panel.
4- HP off again.
5- Carefully dry off car with waffleweave microfiber.
6- Optional: To get that "just waxed" look use an quick detailer spray and wipe off with a good microfiber made for car paint.
At least clay, use a paint cleaner and polish your car once a year. Preferly twice a year( spring and fall). Wax your car once a month. Never use force when washing or drying your car. Let the washmitt easily glide across your paint with a lot of water and suds from the soap bucket.
Happy car cleaning:)
