For the past week, I've been getting a slight smell of petrol when driving to work but it usually appears at the same place on my journey and doesn't last long so I've kind of assumed it was coming from outside. However, last night I left Lee in the car while I ran to the shop and when I got back the smell of petrol inside the car was really strong. I drove to the garage this afternoon and insisted that someone take a look and it turns out I had a cracked breather pipe which was allowing fumes to escape and travel into the car via the air vents! Apparently it's quite a common fault in Puntos and they have had one or two 500s with the same issue. While I was there I asked them to chase up my washer jets as I've been waiting for a number of weeks now. One hour of waiting and I had a new breather pipe and 2 new front washer jets! Quite good service for the start of a holiday weekend, considering I hadn't phoned beforehand and just turned up! :icon_thumleft:

I,ve just started to get a fuel/exhaust smell in the car too. It seems worse when the car is stopped with the engine running.
Maybe I should get it checked out!

Yes, the split breather pipe seems to be the cause of this most of the time! There´s a photo of the pipe in guestion here: http://www.500fans.com/showthread.php?t=1011

Go to the dealer's garage ASAP, do not ''play'' with a fuel/exhaust smell in the car, it may, but it maybe not the same problem as the other members have o their 500! ;)

Just looked at mine and sure enough, the breather pipe is split along most of its length. Just booked it in for Monday morning............

Have them to check the smaller pipes in the area of the breather pipe also. At least one more was rotten on mine:( So they changed the wrong one the first time I was in to have it fixed.... They have now also got the thick pipe, so I will go in to have it fixed asap! The smell of oil makes my head hurt:(
