maybe a good idea is to setup something like this to UK next year that we will have a lot more members!
I may not bring my Abarth with me (3000euros to UK and back) but am sure that I will find a dealer to donate one to me for the event! ;)

I would love you all to come to the UK... sorry, but don't fancy driving abroad. Lefty... you can always hop a ride in Cadbury.

Venue-wise... somewhere like Warwick University. Large venue and they let the rooms on campus.

Wrecky thanks for bring the Italian meet to us all :icon_thumleft:

You can always drive it:icon_thumleft: Cant be that expensive:icon_thumright: I can drive to Bergen and take the ferry from there(if it still goes). I will really try to make it. Just an idea: Maybe we can have it in the surroundings of the Heartbeat show ( tv name: Aidensfieldlol ), it would be the perfect place for a retro car like the 500:p

Hehe...No longer than Italy is from Norway. Ferry from Pireus to Italy and ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle:icon_thumleft:

Looks like there is no ferry connection between Norway and England anymore, but I can always take the ferry from Esbjerg(DK) or from Amsterdam:icon_thumleft:

Gotta love this little car that makes us do these crazy thingslol

The idea of a meeting of the people of 500fans.com is great. Why not doing it?
In the spanish Fiat 500 club, we are starting to prepare a meeting of 3 days in a beautiful town near Madrid in Spain the last weekend of September. When we would have more info, I will let you know, in case some of you could come. :icon_thumleft:

UK will be the place, If I have a good company http://www.500fans.com/images/statusicon//private/forum_old.gif for the trip :D, I will bring the Bobira, if not, I will fly to Uk and find a 500 over there for the event days! :)
A good month for the UK may be the May or early June because I believe that at late June and July the our UK friends will be on summer holidays!
We may also invite the Top Gear team as we are the perfect gang for completely crazy things!
What do you think?

DFDS did go between Bergen and Newcastle, but they have stopped the route. It is plans of a new route, partially financed by the county of Bergen. They are really interested in getting the route back since there has been ferry connections between Bergen and Newcastle for 150 years until last year( I checked this yesterday when this came uplol )
So I guess my options are Gothenburg, Sweden or Esbjerg, Denmark or Amsterdam:)

I was just wondering if it would be possible to make some t-shirts, polo`s or similar that we can buy with the forums logos and a 500 on? It would be kind of fun if we had this on when the meeting next year comes around. I am not sure if this is possible, it was just a tought I`ve got after the cinquecentisti meeting. They all had cinquecentisti pique shirts with the logo and theire forum nickname on.

Cadbury

For me, there is no congestion charge as I would be travelling down the M1. You might need to pay it as you might be travelling across London. Ace Cafe's Italian Night is on a Thursday night once a month... hope the nights haven't drawn in by then but then the clocks don't go back till later in October

Yeh, I'd advise against going through anywhere in central London that requires you to pay anyway. The queues inside can be just as bad as those outside!!
The most sensible route is probably to go all the way round the M25 and come in via the A41 through Watford (Oh god, I can't believe I recommended using the M25, what is wrong with me...)

Yeh, you really really can't sit in your car on the side of the motorway. I drive a hell of a lot of motorway miles and the amount of HGVs I see drifting is unreal.
I've had a few dabbles into the hard shoulder myself  when you're doing long distances, it can be very easy to have a small lapse in concentration like that. Of course that's when it's time to pull over for a nap and a coffee!!

Whats HGV`s? I know what it is like to be working on the road...It is better with the ambulance because of blue lights and the police is usually there to take care of traffic. But when I am out working with the tow truck with lots of yellow lights, people hardly notice it and pass my back with only a few inches sometimes. We have had to mount white strobes/blitz on the tow truck even tough it is illegal because they look blue from a distance. Then people thinks it is a firetruck or something and slows down a little..... Truckers are usually those who are best at slowing down and turn far left outside of the tow truck....

Dont sit in your vehicle if it has broken down on ANY ROADS you can replace your car

This is usually not a big problem in my pats of Norway since we got really wide road shoulders, and the maximum legal speed on just a few highways is 100km/h. Most roads are max 80 and 90 km/h. The problem comes when I come with the tow truck which is much wider than small cars. I usually park my tow truck about 50-80m behind the troubled car and turn my wheels out of the road, so if the truck get hit from behind from another car the truck will be pushed out of the road. And at the same time is a barrier between me and the cars coming from behind. For me the largest problem is when I drive in front of the troubled car to tow it up on my flatbed, then I dont have that barrier anymore and I have to be on the side of the tow truck to secure/tighten the car onto my flatbed truck. But in other parts of Norway like the western parts and northern parts there is hardly roadshoulders at all, but also lower speed limits and less traffic.... I always advice my customers when I speak on the phone with them that they should leave theire vehicle and move out of the road. Specially in the winther in icey conditions. But offcourse most of them dont have enough clothes to stay out of the car for very long waiting for me. And sometimes they have to wait for an hour or two before I am able to reach them...

When a 42 tonner side swiped my Fiesta last September (has it really been a year !). It was bright sunshine so only HiViz needed, my phone worked and it was light. Oh... and I was protected on three sides by a 42 tonne lorry, ambulance and breakdown truck that arrived within ten minutes.

It should be a great gathering ! How's the planning going Lefty ?

Carnage on the M1 this morning at 7am. Lorry going north ploughed up 200 yards of central reservation and ended up in the fast lane of the southbound carriageway. Apparently, there were five/six cars involved also. Hope no one hurt. Tonight they still hadn't re-opened all carriageways.

Heard about that on the radio all day, sounded pretty bad. Lanes are still closed because they need to be relaid overnight, lots of road damage by all accounts.

Maybe we should try to decide a month where we can have the meeting soon. May, June, July has been up before! In my case May might be the easiest month, because of planning of vacations etc...

What do you other guys think?

I am just thinking that the earlier we decide month / date, more people will be likely to come:icon_thumleft:

We also has got to decide where in England sould we have the meeting. About this I am thinking somwhere in the Newcastle area as ferrys from the mainland goes here(atleast from Scandinavia).

:thanks2:

I am just think loud here: But since this is our first meeting ever, we should probably take it easy this time.... Like more of an social gathering! Example: Meet friday afternoon at a hotel, resturant etc... get to know each other!
Saturday: Meet up again somewhere ( local Fiat dealer?) and go from there on a cruising trip to somewhere intersting( car museum, a nice place by the sea to have lunch etc, etc... Spend some time there before we go cruising back to the hotel. A couple of hours rest before we have a late dinner at hotel, resturant etc....Then just socialising out the night! Sunday is breakup day: Meet each other around noon and say godbye to each other!

Offcourse on saturday we could for an example have somekind of competition etc.. when we meet, with some cheap awards at dinner in the evening.

Our second meeting ( 2011) I think we should have on continental europe, since we get more and more members from thw continent.

I heard a rumour that Goodwood are having a special on Italian and/or Fiats this year....my Brother has been pestering me and my hubby to go (I have the 1.2 sport, he has the Abarth)

I suspect that accomodation would be very difficult to get, but you never know. I've ended up on a static caravan site before now (it's reasonably near Brands Hatch, and I was damned if I was going to miss Neil Hodgson in the Superbikes that year !)

I just dicovered that there is an Cinquecentisti meeting in Liguria in September..... That gives me a few more months to save up! And it is in the same town as we did go to last year after the meeting in Erba! By the medeterranean sea, just outside of Genova! This town is a paradise town with old funk style houses( Like Miami Beach), palmtrees and with an great romantic atmosphere! The town is called Rapallo and is located next to the rich and famous playground of Portofino! I really want to go there! And as it dont seem I will make it to the UK this year, I will try to go to Rapallo again. I have made a thread on Cinquecentisti, trying to collect some more information about this meeting. If anyone else would like to go also, we could meet up somewhere and cross the alps together:) If I should go there I think we will stay there for a week or so, to make it a holliday also. Do some scuba diving in the Portofino marine park etc...
I can highly recomend Rapallo, and to combinate it with a 500 meeting would be just great:icon_thumleft:

If I understood it right, they had not set an exact date yet! I have made a thread on cinquecentisti about this, so I will keep you up to date!

We need to get a definitive list, see where everyone's coming from then organise around that :) Goodwood was only an idea if that's not feasible for everyone

Me and Guttemamma is going there in our 500 :) You are welcome to join us if you want! Shorter drive for you also :) And it would be Nice if someone else from 500fans.com also attended! Thank you for the invitation Wrecky! I wish I could go. There are only 1200 kilometres. But I'm very short of money and my boyfriend takes holidays from the 20th to the 26th. If the meeting would happen on this week, maybe we could try to go.

Enjoy your stay in Greece.
