Hi,

Has anyone else had a prooblem with a cold start on 1.2, when I turn the key to start the car, it struggles to start making some wierd noise and then struggles to idle, this only happens when the engine is cold.

Thanks

Ewan

It could be a bad starter engine(is it called that in english?), if it is like a screaming really ugly sound.
Or if the sound is like a tic tac sound= poorley charged battery. Take it to the dealer and they can measure the charging of the generator. Whatever fault it is it will probably be fixed on the warranty.

Mine is starting normally even in -10. No problems what so ever so far. I´ve read from english Fiat forums that people are having a hard time starting their 1.2 500s when it´s cold. Maybe it´s the slightly damp weather that is so common in Britain?

I read about it too! I´m curious to see if my dealer is going to update my ecu when take my car to its first service in april. If I remember correct this update did something to cars performance too! And this is something that really interests me!!!

What will it do with the performance? I suddenly got interested alsolol
My car is chasing the rpm a bit when it`s idling. Sometimes its almost like it stops:mad: Have noticed this when it is very cold, like -10 to -15.

I read it on Fiat forum. Someone was telling that his/hers ecu hed been updated by dealer and after that the car felt much faster and was pulling better in hills. Original problem was, that his car wasn´t running properly after start up when it was cold. Revs were really low and the car could barely keep running...

Take it back to the dealer and get the software updated :)

My 1.4 was a little slow the start the one day a year it got close to 0C here

I took it in they discovered there was an update for the 1.4 to solve the problem as well :icon_thumleft:

Hi everyone, I recently took mine to the dealer and they did the ecu upgrade, twice! first time didn't work, mileage flashing intermittently, poor starting when cold. Also a bad knock from bottom end!!! Dealer have done ecu upgrade twice now, so far mileage has stopped flashing and starts a bit better but not brilliant. Wouldn't say the performance was any better though so sorry to disappoint anyone. The knock from bottom end is 'piston slap', not bad as it started at about 4000 miles. She is going back in on Friday as the dealership had to contact Fiat before they could go any further. Will have to see what happens next???? Maybe bottom end rebuild!!!!
Still lover her to pieces though, amazing little cars with big hearts! :D

I think ill get it done when its due for service, I have had a couple of bugs with Mario. The Rev Sensor went about a month after getting it, which messed up the ECU. And I have the random flashing miliage problem with it, and the computer screen on the instrument cluster somethimes failing to come on (not a wiring problem as it fixes itsself when I reset the ignition) , as well as the cold start problems. Apart from those little niggles I have had nothing else go wrong, I expected these things to occur when buying a car that was so new to the market.

Edit: 50th Post !!!!

Our 1.2 starts fine - we just dip the clutch, turn the key & it fires straight up...
