View Full Version : Turn signals on the 500

Hi,
Something I experienced already a few times on my 500 which I think is quite annoying is the fact that after I turned somewhere with the turn signals set, that they seem not to go back to the neutral position as the steering wheel turn angle was not big enough.
This leads to the result that the turn signals stay on although they shouldn't.
I haven’t had this problem with any other car before. (And I had / have quite a few)
Anyone else experienced this?

But I love the lane shift indicator with only 3 or 4 blinks:)

My indicators drive me nuts:icon501:
We have a lot of roundabouts here... If you turn right and put the indicator on to turn right as soon as you turn left as you enter the roundabout (even the slightest!) it cancels the right indicator.:confused: It's not only dumb it's dangerous.
Probably the only thing that annoys me about the car.

Same thing happens to me! I usually have to time it to when I'm just entering the roundabout, which doesn't give people around me much time to react lol

Hi,
The lane shift indicator is no miracle and you can find it today on about any new car.
The problem with the flash mechanism is that you must at least turn first the steering wheel 1/2 turn in the direction of the engaged indicator before being able to disengage it while turning the wheel back to its initial position.
The fact is that during normal driving you hardly have to turn your steering wheel 1/2 turn; usually the steering wheel angle is much less.
This leads to the result that the flash lights stay engaged..

This used to happen to me every morning at a very busy roundabout. I moved house and don't go that way anymore - problem solved!! lol

No problem in rundabouts as you only need to use the lane change indicatorlol
But I agree that the normal turn signals is way too slow to stop itself:( I have gotten the habit of turning them off with my finger as I straighten the car after a turn. :icon_thumleft:

Exactly the same! The dealer had a look and said 'All Fiats do this'. Maybe he's right.
But, if they know it's a problem, why don't they fix it?

Am sure that they will fix it some time when the stock ends! ;)

You would have thought that a car with this safety rating would not have this sort of problem. I have had 3 different indicator cassets in my car, but all the same. Still love the car though.

Spookily ... despite the fact that everyone [including the garage] says 'They all do it', today I have a new courtesy car with 1600 miles on the clock and, guess what? Right first time. The indicators turn off after going around a bend - doesn't have to be a sharp bend either.
I'm having the dashboard display and the Blue&Me module replaced today [car is a year old in November]. Maybe I should push for the indicator cassette despite the fact that I've got used to turning it off or just using the lane change indicator instead.
Still love the car!

A mate of mine had his one year old 500 stolen and he reckons the problem is not there in his new 500. Maybe they fixed it!

He did get it back, or rather the insurrance company did as he had already gotten the new car. The car wasn't just in one piece, there was in fact no sign of tampering at all, which begs the question: how did the thieves get away with the car? He asked Fiat (as the car is supposed to have reasonable anti-theft measures), but no answer.
