View Full Version : Quite expencive!

Iīve been looking into the possibility of getting an Abarth here in Finland. Its not officially imported here, so I would have to buy it elsewhere, which is most likely Germany where there are loads on sale. Prices in Germany start around 16000 euros at the moment, and a good one to my liking would be propably around 18000 to 19000 euros.

Ok, so thatīs quite reasonable, since here you are able to get a 1.2 lounge with some extras for that kind of money... But, and theres always a but, going through customs webpages and the part where there are tax decisions for earlier imported cars I managed to find one imported Abarth. And guess what the import tax was? 8900 euros!!! For an opening edition Abarth 500. Thatīs just rediculous! First I would have to bay 18-19000 euros for the car and then almost 9000 euros in taxes for the finnish coverment. I just dont think Abarth is quite worth the 27-28000 euros this adds up to! (plus all the expences getting it here; travelling and so on)

So, I would like to ask, what kind of extras did the opening edition have? I know it has leather, but what about sat nav, auto climat control and so on? The reason Im asking is because all of these things add to to the tax. The less there are this kind of extras the less the tax would propably be. If you take out leather and so on, maybe the tax would drop a little bit, perhaps down to 7000 or 8000 euros...

It seems getting an Abarth here is going to remain a dream that will never turn into reality!:(

Same thing here Ville. I did some calculating on bringing in to Norway Lefteris Abarth for 15 000euros! It is one year old, and I ended up with 13000euros in taxes......:mad::mad: The Abarth will for sure remain a dream for some more years in my case:(:(

13000e!!! Norway takes this one step further... It is a amazing little car, but not worth that kind of money.

Unfortunately "grey-importing" it myself is propably the only way its ever going to be possible to get one. Because of the financial troubles our import company has been having Fiat has terminated all contracts with the company, so at the moment Fiat is not even imported here anymore, let alone Abarth! :(

So the dealerships dont sell new cars anymore?
Same thing here, I dont think RSA ever will take any Abarths to Norway. But atleast Fiat is moving up on the sales statistics here! Comercials in all newspapers, tv stations and radiostations. But we can only buy pre spec cars made for Norway. Just a few colorchoices and almost no other options:(

They dont sell Fiats, Alfas or Lancias anymore (well, except for the cars they allready have) but they still have Kia. Good thing is they didnt have to file bankruptcy though, because my five year warranty is from them. Also they will continue to service Fiat with original parts, but Fiat themselves are looking for a new importer here.

Fiat was doing ok here too with Punto and Bravo, but I guess its hard to make profit with small cars then when the finnish markets are so small. Alfas here are too expencive and lose to Audis, Volvos and BMWs in sales as a premium brand. And sold Lancias can be counted with the fingers on one hand... I guess Kia is the only make they can sell in big numbers, so its a good thing for them it doesnt belong to the Fiat group!

I know the Opening Editions have 160HP engine (same from essesse kit), red & black leather steering wheel, and aluminum gear knob. Don't forget the special plaque and keys.

:( Importation situation.

VilleV

Ok. I didnt remember it had 160hp. One thing that might affect the amount of tax definitely!

It was like this here in Greece till 2003, then things are change in one night and the car prices (up to 2.000 cc) are the best in Europe, is never too late for the other counties to do the same, if they wont to be a EC we have to be in everything, why you can bring a 10.000 TV set from an other EC country with out TAXES and when you wish to bring a 1.000 euros car, you have to pay one more car (or more) to them....
The same problem is still here for the large cars only (over 2.000cc) If I wont to bring a 3.600 cc car 3 years old from Germany, I have to pay TAXES the 50% of the chif price of the car (when it was new), some times (and in most cases) this is more then the price of the car today as a used one!
When they wont to :sex_: us with new TAXES... sorry is the EC, not us.... when other countries have benefits for their citizens that we don't have... they look the other way...
Am sure that its about time too all of us to be equal as a EC citizens, if not, I don't really see why the C have any place on EC ;)

In my case it is time that this mountain becomes a part of the EU, not only the EEC:mad::mad: We got all these EU laws that tells us what to do, but non of the good benefits that comes with the EU:mad:

VilleV
25th September 2009, 16:47
To be honest Im not sure its good for Norway to join EU. I mean after all you would only end up "paying the pill" for other, "poorer" countries! So far we still have to pay import tax on things that matter (like cars) even if taxes have allready been paid to another EU country. Only good thing might be the Euro, it helps to compare prices and also makes travelling easier.

I see that EU has issues the same as we do here in the U.S. Government 'says' it listens to us, but reality is that they don't care, as long as THEY get what THEY want.

Our big thing now is this Health Care bill in our Congress right now. One political Party is totally against it. Why? Because it's not THEIR Party that is proposing it. They all say they want to work together, but that's hardly the case.

An issue like reducing tariffs or taxes on cars coming into a EU Country either from the U.S. or another EU Country will probably never be fair. Those that are benefiting from the tax income won't allow it.

There are many reasons why we would LOVE to live in EU but then again, what we may gain, we would lose somewhere else.......:(

Yea, I understand. But remember, if you live in the U.S., then the rest of the world hates you. They confuse the American People with the American Government. We are NOT the same and in many cases, DON'T THINK THE SAME EITHER.

But then again, what Government DOES listen to it's citizens? :(

:good_post: The governments only listens to theire citizens before elections, so that they can forget when they win:mad:

A few years back, in the late nineties a swedish minister called Norway the last Soviet state, because of the socialist way this country is ruled:(

Nop, not me, as you can see I have a American bike I just order a American Car (from America ;) ) and I have an all American forum that you are a member along with many others fine Americans, and thats because I know only to well that you are 100% right on this, yes we don't like the US Gov, but then again most of the US people are ex Europeans in one way or another, so if we hate the American people is like we hate our grandfathers and grandmothers.... just my 2 euros :)

Hi,

Every service costs its money and it's a shame that a highly developed country as the US which has about the best possible medical services is not able to make those services available to all of it's population.
Of course nobody wants to pay high taxes for something that he hopes never to use such as health insurance. Many young people prefer to use all of their gains for their own and no one wants to believe that the day will come where they also will be old and sick.
I have been to the US and over there you see a lot of 70 to 80 years old men and women working in hotels, shops and gas stations.
They don't do that for fun but simply because they have no choice as they have no or only very little retirement money.
Also employees that had a good company health insurance and a nice retirement have made the painful experience after the bankruptcy of their company which seemed safe that those vital things as retirement and health insurance organization cannot be left to the employer alone.
For sure the build up of a government controlled health insurance system as the new US government is trying to install now will cost a fortune and things you want to buy will become more expensive as you will have to catch up what former generations failed to do but believe me it is worth it.:icon_thumright:

Hi,

I've been to Sweden about 18 times in the last 20 years for winter tests and I like the people up there in Lappland.
You get always help at any time of the day or even at night when needed and I have been to the greatest partys if I remember well because it usually became very foggy and often I couldn't remember where I have been, the day after.
Sometimes I woke up at an unknown place too but that's another story lol.

Sence of occasion over here!;) The First Abarth Iīve seen on sale here in Finland: http://www.nettiauto.com/fiat/500/3172958

A "grey import" 2009 model standard Abarth in bnw white with red decals, 17" alloys, 18000km on the clock and asking price of 26900 euros! But still, this is a start and even though Abarth is still not officially imported here some examples are finding their way in. If the price was around 22000-23000 euros Iīd be tempted.

Yeah, I know and itīs sad! But also I think that these sellers here are being creedy because they know that there arent many Abarths around for sale so they think they can just ask any price they like from their cars! I hope no one will buy these cars with such price tags! After all it costs around 16000-17000 euros to buy one from germany and taxes are propably around 5000-6000 euros, so that makes 21000-23000 euros to import one, but suddenly they are asking to get 26000-31000 euros from these cars when itīs time to sell one!
