This isn't meant as an insult by the way!

At the time when I was running around in old British sports cars and some not very sporty cars, Julie, my future wife and her friends were riding around on Lambretta's, Vespa's etc. She even had a Jet 200 which was as reliable as an unreliable thing apparently.

Some of the people she knew back then who are now also 'middle aged' are still scooter enthusiasts. They think her 500 is the dogs do da's lol
The last scooter she had was a Vespa P200E, bought for her birthday in 1988 by me  She lost her confidence riding bikes after an accident, but now she has has another form of iconic Italian transportation and is as pleased as punch biggrin2

Any other 500 owners out there who are or were scooterists?

I too am nuts for Vespas of all ages, especially old ones, tho I´ve never actually owned one. They are quite rare up here, but during last couple years they have been getting more and more popular. Like I said in another thread Im just blown away everytime I go to some Mediterranean country by how much of them there still are around!

Just this septemper I started chatting with a scooter rental guy in Kos who was a Vespa enthusiast. He had a couple of mint old Vespas in his office and he showed me photos of Vespa meetings in Greece. He also told me that there was a meeting coming up in Kos town this month, but unfortunately I wasnt around there anymore at that time.

There are some photos of Vespas by me on Flickr if you would like to see (the link below).

Like Ville I have never owned one, but I am a big fan.....
I met up with our new member Holtani today and he told me that Vespa scooters are the scooters who keeps it`s value best. If you buy a new Vespa you can almost get all your money back after a couple of years of ownership:icon_thumleft:

New Vespas look almost as good as the old ones. Like Fiat they have kept the retro styling.

I think I read somewhere that the same peoplle who designed the 500 designed the current Vespa, You can see it if you look at the two side by side.

Can't imagine any other country producing styling like these machines. Plenty of look alikes, but still not quite the essence of the original Italian designs. :)
