View Full Version : My 500 has sprung a leak somewhere

It's been a bad week for me as a 500 owner. First the car won't start, same symptoms as my previous problems. I call Fiat's road assistance numbert as the car came with a brochure saying it has a 3 year fre road assistance program included. The guy takes my details and says help is on the way. After 15 minutes he calls back and says the Fiat importer, the dreaded RSA has cancelled the roadside assistance program, i'll have to pay 500 NOK... I have never heard about this. Don't you guys think it should have been sent a letter to the owners about this?
Watch out if you ever need roadside assistance Norwegian 500 owners..
Then today I was stepping out of the car and noticed a small poodle of water on my driver side rear footwell rubber mat.
Removed the mat and found the carpet soaking wet in the entire driver side footwell. There's virtually a small pond back there... Going to the dealers first thing tomorrow morning. :beaten2::beaten2:
My other half is getting more and more sceptical about the whole car and was so pissed about the roasdside assistance mess, so this was not something that helped her view of the car... :aktion082:
Depressed..

Did you buy your car from RSA? Because if you bought the car from Auto Import Nord they cant cancel the roadside assistance, as it is contractbound when you bought the car. If you bought it from RSA, they can cancell it I guess. Then you probably have got an old service book from the former import company. I would have made a complain to RSA said that they had given you misleading information:mad:
I am glad I bought the 500 from AIN, as RSA cant change my guarantee or roadside assistance program. Not that I had ever used Viking anyway, after all I am a Falck guylollol
About the leak it is probably a closed drain caused by rust protection or leaf.... Make sure they go over all the drains, and it will probably be fine again. This can happend to all cars, made by all manufactures:(
Have they not figured out the starting problems yet? Strange if they cant find out what is causing the battery to charge out.....

I believe the Viking guy might have found the problem. He saw that the negative clip on the battery was a bit loose, and might have lost contact when i went up a sidewalk to park. He tightened it and the car started without any problems. I'm crossing my fingers that he saw what the last Viking guy and the mechanics at Motorforum did not. Felt a bit stupid for not seeing it myself actually...
I sent an angry email via the Fiat.no page about the roadside assistance and will discuss it with Motorforum tomorrow when I take the car in. I believe all cars bought after a date in february is RSA cars.

This is a known problem on 500s, and Pandas too I guess. Silly me not thinking about it... I´ve been informed about this way back in summer of 08, but it hasnt happened to me so I had completely forgotten about it.

Just came back from the garage. It appears the Tectyl guys had been under par as they had forgotten to open the drainholes after treatment of the car. :banghead:
The mechanic poured out around 10 litres of water from the channels. It was actually splooshing and you could hear it when stopping the car.. To bad I play music constantly cause I never heard it. :hair-raising:
It is going back to the garage on monday to remove the carpet and dry it out. As I am getting the keys to our new flat today the next days are to busy for me to leave the car there today. Luckily the weather is wet so it won't dry out on it's own.

The same thing happend to the Bravo I was test driving a while back. It had not been moved for a month or so when I drove it, and when I was braking, turning etc... I could hear splashing in the doors:eek: I draines it my self, by open up the drains in the door:) The salesman told me that this did happend fairly often with new cars..... Also caused by the tectyl treatment. The threatment is done by Autolink in Drammen when they arrive in the country:( Autolink handles about 70% of all new cars coming to this country, so this hapends to all kind of cars, from Fiat to VW, Opels, Mercedes etc...
I am glad you are getting it sorted out:icon_thumleft:

I have a dry car :) Picked up my 500 from the garage today all dried out :)
I also finished the move on the weekend and all went well except all that rain.. IT was pouring down all weekend so we and all our stuff got soaked :(
I talked to the sales manager at Motorforum and they had not been informed about the cancelled Viking deal. He called RSA but didn't get a satisfactory answer from the guy he talked to so was going to check higher up in the system. He was extra concerned about the deal for customers who bought their cars before RSA took over. I bought mine after so I'll have to live with the strange doings of RSA

Why was he concerned about pre RSA customers?
We have a contract which says 5 years warrany and free road side assistance, so there ain`t much RSA can do about this( I hope ).
