View Full Version : Abarth 500 to be the first to hit US Market!!

Hello my 500 friends! Like the title implies, I have just read from multiple reliable sources, that the 500 will hit the states in Abarth form first! Supposedly, the rough guess is, mid 2011 as a 2012 model!
They are saying that strting price could be around $18,000-19,000 USD... Not bad!
Just thought I'd share my excitement from "across the pond".

For me personally, mid 2011 is perfect! I will have just paid off my SRT-4:icon_thumright:
I can have my new Abarth daily driver, and start turning my SRT-4 into my "weekend warrior"!

$18,000 - $19,000 is another reason to love the Abarth. Mid- 2011 gives me enough time to save and afford the ESSESSE kit. I better set up a more aggressive saving plan right now.

Absolutely! Wonder if we will get immediate access to the SS upgrade, or if they won't be available until later? Also, if available right away, wonder if you will still get that one year period after the purchase to add the SS kit and retain your warranty?
We should have a California Abarth party in about two yearslol

500 Abarth already offered with 181HP in the Ferrari version, and 190HP+ for the Aseto Corsa kit, so am sure that soon it will be a esseesse kit with 181HP, on the other hand, Americans are the best when it comes to turbo upgrades, so you bet that it will be a lot of US companies that will also offer some kit with 200HP + for are little toys :icon_thumright:

You can always order the mechanical kit and add it on any Abarth, it is the same as the Punto Abarth engine SS kit (larger turbo)

Well that's just not RIGHT! :crying4: It worked earlier this morning....:(
I DID copy this from a story I just read:
"The latter could become Abarth's secret weapon for establishing the Fiat brand in North America. "We imagine that a good first step we can take relatively soon would be a one-make racing series for the 500 Abarth Assetto Corse that would include some dates in North America during popular racing events," says Labate"
I wonder if the 'popular racing events' would include the Indy 500? I would LOVE to see an Abarth up close and personal while at the track for our SMART CAR MEET!!!! lol

Hhhhmmmmm... Your post says we have to wait a little longer than expected, and I click the link to that website (which I love by the way!) and I can't find any info on a timeline for release.
I did however see that the 1.4 liter "FIRE" power plant will indeed start to be produced in North America in 2010!!! Naturally aspirated power will be 100 hp while turbo versions will be somewhere north of 150 hp!
I ask you, why would they start building these gems without putting them in a little hot rod Fiat? Like, say, the 500 and 500 Abarth... ?

From what I understand, they're building them in Toluca Mexico. I think they'll be available in Mexico BEFORE here in the U.S., due to EPA and other U.S. restrictions. The '500' should be released in the fall of 2010 as, I would imagine, a 2011 model.
It's sad that it looks like the Abarth won't be here first. I really had my sights set on the first one here at our dealership. Oh well......I'll just have to wait a bit longer, driving my '09 smart until they arrive.
But as soon as I hear something from our sales dept about the ability to place an order, I'll pass it on!!! :D

That would be brilliant!
I have mentioned this before, but I am currently driving an 05' NSRT-4. I will be making payments on that for some time still, so I needed the extra time anyway. Mid to late 2011, as a 2012 model would be perfect for my circumstances.
Again, it would be awesme if you have some inside connctions, to let us know when the Abarth is availae to order.
PS, I wonder how difficult it would be to buy an Abarht in Mexico and get it transfer/converted to US spec?
Probably not worth the cost. Better to just wait for the US spec modls to hit dealers.
Any ideas as far as US price points yet (something more than just speculation)?

I don't know.....I 'might' consider a standard '500'. From what I've seen, Fiat gives you lots of options and colors to chose from. Might be a hard decision......get one NOW (well, when they first arrive) or wait for an Abarth.
Guess I'll know when they hit the showrooms....;)

The Fiat 500 Sport 1.4 is indeed a wonderful little car. I have gone back and forth about what I want to get. I always seem to fall back to the Abarth variant.
I know the naturally aspirated version of the FIRE engine will get superior gas mileage, but once you have driven a turbocharged car, it's tough to go back. I love that torque!

Hi Guys!
I came across this thread and here's what I know:
The 500 is to start production fourth quarter 2010. Hopefully in the show rooms before the end of year, although I have listened to Marchionne say Jan 2011.
The 500 Abarth will follow later, fourth quarter 2011.
Hey, the big news is the Abarth will have 170hp!
more details on http://fiat500usa.blogspot.com/
Here are the specs:
170 horsepower (128 kW) at 6,750 rpm
170 lb.-ft. (231 N•m) of torque at 3,000 rpm
I'll have a story about this coming up soon on my site, so keep an eye out...biggrin2
Best regards, and thanks to all who have stopped by this last year...Chris
:thanks2:

Hey guys! So, I read the the North American Abarth was going to get the 170 hp version of the turbo 1.4, and I was so excited!!
I am a member of another forum call FocalJet.com.
It's a long story, but it's a Ford Focus enthusiast site, and I've never owned a Focus lol
I posted a thread there about the 500 Abarth coming to North America, and even THEY were excited:icon_thumright:

''Chrysler has just released their specifications on the 1.4L MultiAir engine that will equip the Fiat 500 Abarth. The 1.4L MultiAir Turbo will be rated at 170hp, that's up from the standard European spec'd version with 135hp and even up from the optional Esseesse version with 160hp.''
I have the SS and it is now less powerful then the US standard one, but with the US gas quality, I think that at the end the SS will have more HP ;)

The 170hp is the figure I received from Chrysler, however, there are a lot of details not released. Remember, the car is set to come out later next year and a lot of things can change in this time.
For example, they can make an optional package available with 170hp, and have a standard one with 135hp, just like in Europe. Marchionne loves to (and Chrysler needs to) make money, so I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a US version of the Esseesse kit.
Of course, all this depends on the price. An $18,000 Abarth with 135hp is ok, a $23,000 Abarth with 135hp is not so ok.
To illustrate my point, here's a comparison of what's available in the US: the $21,950 Mini has 172 bhp, the $23,230 VW GTI has 200 bhp and the $22,740 Mazda Speed 3 has 263 bhp.
And if we do get a little bit more hp in the US, don't feel too bad. My 1976 Lancia Scorpion (Montecarlo) had a 1.8L engine with 81hp and in Europe, it had the 2.0L engine with 120hp!lol
