Saw the first programme of the new series, and have to agree with Clarkson that the road they drove the Aston, Lambo and Ferrari on was amazing

It would be great to try out an Abarth there, really test it's capability. Also be interesting to see how Lefty would get on in his Ferrari - probably not a good road for a Challenger muscle car though ;)

Wish I hadn't sold the Elan now, it would be worth a road trip across Europe just to try those hairpin bends and fast straights.

You cant have one car to fit to all roads and especially with todays traffic and all, a muscle one it fits good, but the 500 is the best of all, I drive hard this days mine and I found it very ''entertainment'' and easy to play with :)

Lefteris is correct of course, it's hard to find a car to fit every requirement. The 500 suits our town / city driving needs, the Mazda 5 is a van with windows which is very practical. Can't help feeling I'm missing something now though. :(

This is the car I owned for 17 years, and sort of regret selling now  (that little boy walking down the steps with my wife in the second photo is a 19 year old bloke now).

Yep, time does seem to pass quickly (not for Lefty's Abarth though ;)) I'd got to the point where I just wasn't using the Elan, always seemed to be something else to do. They can be a bit tempremental, and if not used regularly develop all sorts of gremlins :frustrated: So decided to pass it on to someone who would get enjoyment from owning it.

Lately though, I miss having an 'enthusiasts' car. Thought about a Caterham (Lotus) Seven, but if I got in it, am too old and fat to get back out :(

Never owned an Alfa though, so maybe a GTV.....

A GTV sounds good:icon_thumleft: What about a spider?

Lucky Jack

Spider would be good too, same car really but with a drophead. You can get one of the V6 3.2's (GTV or Spider) five years old for as little as about £5000 :). Downside with this is the 21 MPG :( but 0 -100 KPH in just over 6 seconds.

One of the 165BHP 2.0 engines would do me really (not as fast as I used to be :D) 0 - 100KPH in just over 8 seconds.

Time will tell. :icon_rolleyes:

The fuel consumption doesen't matter if you're having it as an enthusiast car and not as a daily driver :) what about a Classic one from the 60ths or 70ths ?I love the classic spiders( with thin crome bumpers) ;)

I agree Wreckmaster, the early Spiders are great, but good ones are slightly on the pricey side. What I thought about, was a car with all 'mod cons' - air con, CD player, ABS etc, but with a classic feel. And you're right, if it's a weekend car, fuel consumption isn't as critical :)

It's mad though, that a car (UK price) that cost nearly £30,000 new, is only worth £6000 - £7000 or so five years later

Good value for money. Maybe.......
