View Full Version : Electric window switches

Hi, I've just been into my local dealership with my daughters 1.2 Sport as there seemed to be a problem with the nearside electric window. Pressing the switch once brings the window down ok but you have to hold the switch down continuously to bring the window back up. The drivers window is 'one-touch' up and down.

The technician was very helpful and we checked three other 500's only to find they were all the same!! Is this a case of Fiat penny pinching or is it a fault that can be rectified? It seems rediculous to have the nearside window 'one-touch' to go down but not to bring it back up!!

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Its supposed to be a some kind of safety feature. But as Wrecks said its like that and isnt broken!

Thanks for the replies so far..... As expected, it seems to be a feature of Fiat electric windows. I have not experienced it on other cars though.....

I think most GM products are that way, only auto down. To bad I value auto-up the most. O well, it isn't a deal breaker.

In my Nissan it when you engage the auto-up it detects a blockage. It will save a child from choking, but not from a car jacker. lol

I have auto-up only on the driver's window and auto down on both.

My Land Rover Freelander and my partners BMW both have one touch up and down on both front and rear windows but then they are in a slightly different league to the brilliant 500! In fact, I drive the 500 more than the Landie as I like it so much!!

This issue is the norm... I believe it is quoted in the manual

It's a safety feature, designed to stop the driver accidently slicing the arm off their passenger without permission.

Whilst I agree that it's extremely annoying having to the hold the button down, the feature is there for a legitimate reason.

I think pretty much every car I've driven that has electric windows does the same thing.
