View Full Version : Washer Jets

Have started a new thread on this one again, (last one got hijacked by washer hose problems biggrin2).

Still got the same problem with the driver's side washer jet flying out! Dad has exactly the same problem with both of his. He called the dealership today and they told him that they hadn't heard of this problem :yeahright: they were going to find out if there was a new design and let him know. I've had to glue mine in place!

Has anyone else had any information from Fiat about this problem? (I refuse to go to my dealership for fear of starting a fight :beat-up: with them! they have already 'apparently' changed them on my car).

Any info is much appreciated.

Im not able to help you on this, but Im still wondering if this is only RHD problem! I mean I havent heard of this problem from anywhere else besides brits, tho I´ve stopped using mine when its frosty. I have no idea how the car being rhd could affect this tho, but I guess the washer jets have to be modified somehow because the driver is sitting on the other side.

I´m wondering if the washer fluid sold over there is "strong" enough so that it doesnt freeze and therefore cause the jets to pop out? I´ve had stuff that´s supposed to stay fluid until -20 freeze when its only -18 or so. No I only use fluid thats supposed to handle -50...

Do you mean the whole washer or just the little jet/nozzle (small cylindrical part)?

When the water in the nozzle assembly freezes it expands, puching the jet out from it's housing. Mine did this for the first time last night, despite having a pretty strong washer solution in.

Seeing as mine started do this when I picked her up in June 2008! This doesn't have anything to do with freezing temperatures.

It does it every time I wash the screen no matter what time of year. The barrel pops out and on more than one occasion has ended up under the bonnet! It could be very easily lost if you're not aware of it. My dad's was also the same. No freezing temperatures involved at all.

Mine is glued in for now. But then mine is no longer under warranty.

Ah, mine only started when it froze.

The warranty is 3 years.

Not on my little car, I serviced her myself last year. Warranty with Fiat is now void. I knew that when I serviced her but decided to cut my losses anyway. Have had far too many bad experiences with the dealerships!

I agree with Ville! It seems only to be a problem on RHD cars. Have not heard about it on LHD cars:)

Blimey, a woman who knows which end of a spanner to hold, a rare thing indeed, (are you married) LOL........

Which dealership did you have problems with out of interest, mine is due a service soon & I'm reluctant toi use the Bristol dealer, thought I may give the Chippenham one a go.

I bought her from Simonstone's in Bristol, please don't ask about my experience from them...... lol it was a joke! - Wise decision to stay away from them!

The one my dad used from Gloucester have (so far) been the only ones that have been straight, I think they are called Wessex garages. They were pretty impressive actually. I don't use the one local to me (Swindon) as I have had numerous arguments with them. Lots of garages speak to me like I know nothing just because I am a woman, which really does infuriate me!

I will always learn about my cars and will always try 'hands on' work, my husband has taught me everything I know so far. I am not really a 'girly' kind of woman, I hate cooking, cleaning etc, etc I love cars though! the only way to learn things is to have the practical experience.

Hope the service goes ok though, but I would advise to avoid Bristol for sure. ;)

Ah, don't talk to me about Simonstone.
My first 500 had a small blemish on the bonnet which they would "polish out", yep, they got rid of the blemish, right down to the primer. After 5 visits to the bodyshop and every panel fwd of the rear wings being repainted VERY badly FIAT UK called me an offered to give me a new 500, which was very nice of them.

Apologies I didn't read the original thread, however could you explain exactly what's happening with your jet, pwease? As my passenger side's jet has gone funky the past couple of weeks.

I now understand what the issue is, as I now have it. Been trying to place them in a way they won't pop out, however the water doesn't come out or it sprays onto my roof  Got it booked in for Monday to get them changed at the dealer :D

The same thing has happened to mine. The barrel is missing on the drivers side. I think I will take it back to the dealership to get it rectified.

That is odd, as that was the side that fell out of mine. Apparently the dealer said it's a design fault and they change them under warranty.

Mine aren't working properly again, but at least the haven't fallen out! So much for the 'new improved design'! Must call the dealer.....

Don't say that! You'll jinx mine lol My car is booked in for its first service in March, so if they go before then, they're waiting as not driving 80 miles for them again lol

Can't understand why mine went wrong... I never use the washers when likely to be frozen... learnt that lesson with my Defender. I took Cadbury to a newly opened Fiat dealer... NEVER AGAIN ! Although they replaced, under warranty, the passenger side, I still think they should have replaced the rear washers too. Hey ho... looks like a 25 mile trip to the dealer I bought her from... Must admit they are a friendlier bunch than the local dealer.

Well, after 3 attempts then being left on hold for about 10 minutes yesterday before giving up, I tried the dealer again today and managed to get a rather lethargic man on the phone. When I explained the problem he suggested I bring the car in to see if they could fix the washer jets or if they would need to order new ones. I have to pop over on Saturday morning to let them have a look. I also mentioned that my wheel centre caps were flaking again and asked if they too could be looked at, but apparently the warranty guy only works Mon-Fri so I would have to go over during the week! I explained that that would be difficult as I work full time and asked if I could take photos myself and send them to the warranty person for review. You would think I had asked them to give me a replacement car or something! The lethargic man said he thought the warranty guy would have to take the photos himself! What's the difference? Their staff could verify that the centre caps were indeed flaking whe I take the car in at the weekend and I could send the pictures in afterwards. So we'll see if this is yet another dealer to cross off my list for being hopeless..... I hope not as they were quite good when I got it serviced there last year! :) I'm running out of garages to take cars to.....! lol

Well, after waiting for 1.5 hours in the garage, I now have another set of new washer jets! Let's see how long these ones last. I have to wait for a phonecall during the week about my wheel centre caps......

Did they replace them for peeling?

smurfette
9th February 2010, 03:03
Yes, they were replaced in June last year as they were peeling badly and the new ones haven't lasted very long either! :(
